A FedEx delivery man is being praised as a patriot for stopping a group of protesters from lighting American flags on fire. Matt Uhrin intervened twice during a small protest against racial and social injustices in Iowa City, Iowa, as the group set the stars and stripes alight. He can be seen on video scuffling with protesters and wrestling the flag from them as he uses a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.

Janel Charlene Francis, 45, (inset) is facing charges of murder for killing her son Devan Francis (left), 18, and stabbing her daughter Gabrielle Torrence (right), 24, following a home dispute in Pensacola, Florida, on Tuesday. Francis carried out the attack in the presence of her two young grandchildren, ages four and five, who told a witness that 'granny just killed momma'. They were found with blood on their clothes and feet at the mobile home in Heritage Oaks Mobile Home Park off of Gulf Beach Highway. Torrence said in a Facebook post that her mother had 'pierced her lung and three-fourths of her heart' in the stabbing.

While protesters gathered at airports around the country and decried the president's Muslim ban, First Daughter Ivanka Trump shared a 'tone deaf' photo of her and husband Jared Kushner on social media. The couple, thought to be headed to the annual Alfalfa Club dinner on Saturday night, drew a sharp rebuke as critics pointed to the refugees, migrants and legal residents affected by the president's executive order. Kushner wore a tuxedo, while Ivanka defaulted to a $4,990 silver jacquard gown by Carolina Herrera - and Twitter users mercilessly mocked her for looking like a baked potato.

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin agreed Saturday to develop relations 'as equals' and to establish 'real coordination' against the Islamic State group in Syria, the Kremlin said. 'The two sides expressed a willingness to work actively together to stabilise and develop Russian-American cooperation on a constructive basis, as equals, and to mutual benefit,' Putin said in a statement after the two men's first phone conversation since Trump took office.
Describing it as a "positive" exchange, the Kremlin said they touched on many subjects from the Iranian nuclear deal to the Ukraine and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, the tensions on the Korean peninsula and trade relations. The pair did not discuss American sanctions against Russia introduced under President Obama.

A Texas mosque has been ravaged by a fire just hours after President Donald Trump signed an executive order restricting migration from seven predominantly Muslim countries. A clerk at a convenience store spotted smoke and flames billowing from the Islamic Center of Victoria at around 2am on Saturday, and the fire department spent more than four hours battling the blaze. Photos of the mosque show the dome topped, and and the center's president Shahid said: 'It looks completely destroyed.'

Mississippi man David Alexander (pictured) has captured hearts across the nation with an animated account of the deadly tornado that hit his town last weekend, killing four. Standing amid the rubble of ruined houses in Hattiesburg, Mississippi earlier this week, David Alexander described to the Weather Channel the carnage wrought by the January 21 tornado. The the tornado that hit the town of 47,000, about 90 miles south east of Jackson, Mississippi, was a devastating EF-3 with winds of up to 145mph.

Police charged a 20-year-old woman for throwing an unrelated child in front of railway tracks as a train approached on Friday. Autumn Matacchiera (pictured) was charged will the attempted murder of a five-year-old girl in front of a light rail in Burlington, New Jersey. The unnamed little girl was standing with her mother and her mother's boyfriend at 8.30pm

Roger Morash, 35, his wife Valerie Morash, 32, and their two cats died from poisoning due to the couple's laser 3D printer, which was emitting carbon monoxide in their residence (inset) an officer said on Friday. They were found dead by a friend inside their apartment in Berkeley, California, on Monday. Researchers at the Illinois Institute of Technology warned users against the potential dangers of 3D printers for home use. When used in industry, the machine's use of lasers on types of plastics can emit toxic gasses, including carbon monoxide.

A Virginia teenager shot dead what was potentially the largest-ever feral hog - 545 pounds, six feet and 10 inches long - in the state. Jacob Breeden, 17, noticed the giant male swine tearing through his yard last week in Lignum, 70 miles southwest of Washington DC. He snatched up his rifle and faced the vandal, at which point the swine charged him.

Danita Tutt, (right) 41, of Cleburne, Texas, was indicted after she lied about her 13-year-old son's, Colby (left), medical condition to doctors, prompting the boy to undergo unnecessary surgeries and be placed on unneeded pain medications. Police believe a father killed his wife and their teenage son before taking his own life at their home in McClean, Virginia. Father Hong Chen, mother Shirley Zhou (right) and their 16-year-old son James Wenjie Chen (left) were found shot on Friday. An autopsy is pending to determine their exact cause of death. Fairfax County police believe Chen, 52, shot Zhou, 48 before killing their son who was a sophomore in high school.

A California woman who allegedly set a series of fires that destroyed five cars and damaged others in a carport couldn't 'handle the heat' of her local police department. The identical sisters were born three days under the 24-week legal limit for abortion - making them the youngest twins ever recorded in Britain. They were so tiny they couldn't even wear clothes for fear their delicate skin might tear.

The male student was kidnapped in broad daylight around 3.40pm on Thursday. He said the man had asked him for money and then, when he hesitated, grabbed him by the arm and pushed him into the car. The student said the man then drove him to multiple ATM machines and forced the student to try and make purchases with his credit card at high-end stores. He let the student go after two hours and fled when all transactions were denied. The student was not injured and said he did not see the man display a weapon.

Investigators used a controversial DNA testing method to solve the cold case rape and murder of Righteous Brothers singer Bill Medley's ex-wife Karen Klass. The 32-year-old was sexually assaulted and strangled with her pantyhose on January 30, 1976 as she returned to her home in Hermosa Beach, California. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department revealed on Friday that the case 'was solved through the use of familial DNA, which identified the killer'. They would not confirm who the suspect was or if he had been taken into custody. Medley is one half of the famed Righteous Brothers signing duo with Bobby Hatfield.

Yahweh ben Yahweh founded the Nation of Yahweh in 1979 and deemed himself its God as he raged against 'white devils' and claimed African Americans were the original Israelites. Photographer Eric Lafforgue travelled to North Korea six times from 2008. But he has now been banned from the country after his work was noticed by North Korean officials. Thanks to digital memory cards the photographer was able to save pictures that he was forbidden to take or was told to delete by minders. Mr Lafforgue's photographs show a different side to the North Korean capital, which is often thought of as a poverty ridden dictatorship by westerners. North Koreans have even started to enjoy the delights of western food with burger and pizza (pictured left), while American influences in the country can be seen in the branded billboards (bottom right).
