He added the State Government had put forward the money to secure the fight, and was now waiting for other funding partners to come to the table.

"We're keen to get the fight in Brisbane because we know the numbers stack up," the spokesman said.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the Pacquiao-Horn event would help position Brisbane as a global new world city and he expected a decision to be made in the coming week.

"We are committed to bringing this event to Brisbane," Cr Quirk said.

"Council's economic development agency, Brisbane Marketing, is undertaking an assessment of the economic value to the city and once that is finalised we will be able to make a decision."

On January 11, the fight between Pacquiao and Horn was confirmed, with the date set for April 23.

On January 16, negotiations between the Tourism and Events Queensland, Queensland Government, Brisbane City Council, Suncorp Stadium and organisers Duco Events were announced, with the aim to bring the fight to Brisbane.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said there was no bad seat at Suncorp Stadium.

"I can see why the organisers have identified it as a possible venue for the bout," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"If it stacks up for the taxpayer, Queensland will be in the fight for the fight."

Mr Horn, 28, from Acacia Ridge, is a former teacher at Brisbane's Pallara State School and the son of Lord Mayor Graham Quirk's cousin.

He fought at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and sits second in the World Boxing Organisation's welterweight rankings. He started boxing after being bullied at school.

Mr Pacquiao, 38, is the WBO welterweight champion and has a 59-6-2 record, while also sitting as a senator in the Philippines.
