Say cheeese! Hilarious theme park photos capture the priceless faces of roller-coaster riders mid-descent

  • An image of a man pulling amusing faces on a roller coaster ride has gone viral
  • MailOnline Travel has rounded up the best contenders throughout history
  • Some riders appear terrified, while others pull a series of comical pranks

A prankster's theme park photo has gone viral, inviting laughter from around the world.

Sharing his image to Imgur on Wednesday, the man explained that he'd taken the California Screamin' roller-coaster ride four times in a row at Disney's California Adventure park, then Photoshopped each of his snapshots into one.

In a homage to the comical image, which has already garnered more than 1.8million views, MailOnline Travel has raided the archives to find other examples of hilarity from theme parks around the world.

The man in this hilarious image says he rode the California Screamin' roller-coaster ride four times in a row, then Photoshopped each of his snapshots into one

The man at the front of this ride looks vaguely perplexed, but the rider behind does nothing to conceal his pain

The California Screamin' rider, who goes by the name of Dippeggs, captioned the image: 'It was raining so I went on California Screamin' four times then photoshopped myself in every seat.'

But no digital trickery was required to elicit a laugh in some of these other photos.

One, starring two smiling women, seems standard until you notice the gentleman sitting behind them, who looks like he bitterly regrets his decision to board the ride at Tivoli, a theme park in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Another snap, this time from Vancouever's Playland, stars a woman clearly in the throes of her own worst nightmare, and was nonchalantly captioned: 'Took my girlfriend on her first roller coaster ever. I think it was a success.'

Another shows a rider perched amid a gaggle of screeching neighbours, casually taking a phone call - staged, of course

One image captures a man so exhilarated by the ride's vertical drop, he is seen tearing the shirt from his chest, Superman-style, on the Millennium Force ride in Ohio.

It's clearly staged. And so are several others.

In one a man re-enacts an iconic scene from The Lion King, and in others groups pose with games such as Monopoly and Jenga.

With further examples from roller-coasters far and wide, these photos are virtually guaranteed to make you laugh out loud.

This unfortunate rider appears to be having the extreme opposite of fun at this roller-coaster in New York's Coney Island

It's difficult to decide who the winner is here on the comedy stakes - the gurning man in the front or the horrified woman in the back

This image was captioned: 'It was the "Rock n' Roller Coaster" in Disney's Hollywood Studios, I was assured by my friends that "it was a pretty slow ride"'

Here we have a screamer, a wannabe rock star, and curiously, a man with his hands clasped in prayer

In many of the photos, there's at least one rider displaying a brave face, but not in the case of this one

This photo was captioned: 'Every year my friend does a silly picture while on a roller coaster. This year was by far his best'. It features the jester re-enacting a scene from The Lion King

It's clear who struggled most with the stomach-churning descent on this particular ride

It's fair to say that both the groups pictured here came well-prepared to perform their hair-raising stunts - one feigning a game of Monopoly (left) and the other enjoying breakfast (right)

A case of a rider who has apparently quite literally lost his head, under his shirt that is

Another display of creativity, captured here using a block of Jenga and some expert timing at Six Flags in Kentucky Kingdom

Gearing up for the splash, this log flume rider seems somewhat reluctant over his impending fate
