The Pentagon on Monday denied a claim by the Russian government that both countries’ Air Forces have conducted a joint combat mission in Syria.
The Russian Defence Ministry on Monday said that they have received coordinates of ISIS positions in Syria via a US-Russian communications channel.
The ministry said that two jets from the US-led coalition “participated in an anti-ISIS airstrike alongside Russian aircraft”.
However, the US military denied the Russian claim.
“The Department of Defense is not coordinating airstrikes with the Russian military in Syria,” said Pentagon spokesman Eric Pahon.
Pahon said that he was not aware of any member of the US-led coalition aiding Russia in Syria.
In the meantime, the new Trump Administration signalled that it was open to cooperate with any anti-ISIS force in Syria, including Russia.
Sean Spicer, the Press Secretary of the White House, said that President Donald Trump “would work with any country that shares our interest in defeating ISIS”.
