There's good news from the U.K. with media reports indicating the Chinese-owned British brand could have another sports car in its future.
Quoting MG marketing chief Matthew Cheyne, Auto Express is claiming Shanghai Automotive Investment Company (SAIC – MG’s parent company) has not ruled-out a new sports car once the upcoming SUV lineup and all-new versions of the MG3 and MG6 are locked-down.
The TF (pictured), MG’s last sports car, ended production in 2010 and realistically a straight-out TF replacement isn’t likely.
More realistic is an MG sports car with global appeal like the Mazda MX-5/Miata – this could be could be developed cost-effectively and deliver profits promptly.
And owners of MG sports cars from the 1960s-1970s will chuckle on hearing news of a new electronic gremlin for the brand, only this time it has nothing to do with Lucas or any other supplier of electronic components to U.K. car manufacturers.
It seems that despite claims made in 2014 when MG unveiled the compact all-electric concept car called the Dynamo, production will not be going ahead as the company’s focus has shifted to a straight-forward (make that 'low cost/optimised profit') range of vehicles powered by petrol and diesel engines.
