Chinese-owned British brand MG has confirmed it will unveil a refreshed look for its ‘6’ sedan and liftback hatch models next month.
The update may not be as fresh as promised, however, with today’s headlight teaser suggesting that this makeover is the same that was revealed in September last year.
That update brought revised headlight internals, new tail-lamp lenses, resculpted bumpers at both ends, and new wheels.
The range’s sheetmetal remains unchanged and the cabin is likewise largely identical, although MG promised at the time that buyers can look forward to new features - including an electronic handbrake and upgraded display - along with improved materials throughout.
September’s update also confirmed that the MG 6 will continue with a 1.8 litre petrol engine, producing 118kW at 5500rpm and 215Nm between 1750 and 4500rpm.
Whether next month’s update will offer anything new is unclear, although MG says buyers can expect “major advances in every area”.
The update is “a big leap forward from the original car which has been the result of thousands of hours of dedicated work from our designers and engineers,” MG marketing chief Matthew Cheyne said this week.
The midsizer’s update comes some five years on from its overseas market debut, and two years since it first touched down in Australia.
Current details of the MG 6’s sales in Australia have not been confirmed, as the brand does not report figures to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries’ VFACTS report.
