Infrequently asked questions

Why did the Supreme Court implicitly rule that the religious beliefs of the owners of a closely held corporation outweighed the religious beliefs of their employees, some of whom, as decent Christians, believe in the importance of contraception? The Supreme Court essentially raped these Christian employees - and without contraception.

Why does the mass media think the only Christians in this country are right wingers? This is not only bad journalism, it's deep religious prejudice. The ultimate irony of the conservatives is that they pretend to be a bastion of Christian politics when, in fact, they are comprised in no small part of despoilers, usurers, war-mongers, hypocrites, idolaters, blasphemers, heretics and groupies of false prophets - all of whom are frowned upon by the book they pretend to follow. And the mass media never says a mumblin' word about it all.

What would have happened to the Hobby Lobby case if all the Catholics on the Supreme Court had recused themselves from this case instead of committing high crimes and misdemeanors by subjecting the Constitution to the rules of their church? The answer is that the workers would have won 3-0. This case was entirely decided by members of a church whose pope ruled in 1968 that "it is always intrinsically wrong to use contraception to prevent new human beings from coming into existence." Only Justice Sotomayor voted against her church. - Sam Smith

In 2005, Zimmerman was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, after shoving an officer while a friend of Zimmerman's was being questioned about underage drinking. The charges were reduced, then dropped when Zimmerman entered a pre-trial diversion program. Also in 2005, Zimmerman's ex-fiance filed a restraining order against him, alleging domestic violence. Zimmerman requested a reciprocal restraining order. Both orders were granted.

How to write Chelsea Manning

A long list of what we know thanks to Private Manning

Manning's sentence the longest ever for leaking government information

OBAMA JUSTICE
Murder 11 civilians is okay
Release secret documents: 35 years

In 2007, an American helicopter crew shot and killed 11 civilians in New Baghdad including two Reuters employees. The soldiers repeatedly requested and were granted permission to open fire. They encourage one another and joke about the dead and dying civilians. Their punishment; nothing.

In 2010 Wikileaks published a classified video of the incident obtained and released by Bradley Manning. Manning's punishment for this and release of other documents: 35 years in prison

ACLU - When a soldier who shared information with the press and public is punished far more harshly than others who tortured prisoners and killed civilians, something is seriously wrong with our justice system. This is a sad day for Bradley Manning, but it's also a sad day for all Americans who depend on brave whistleblowers and a free press for a fully informed public debate."
