Saint Paul, Minnesota
Saint Paul (/ËŒseɪnt ˈpÉ”Ë?l/; abbreviated St. Paul) is the capital and second-most populous city of the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of 2014, the city's estimated population was 297,640. Saint Paul is the county seat of Ramsey County, the smallest and most densely populated county in Minnesota. The city lies mostly on the east bank of the Mississippi River in the area surrounding its point of confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Minneapolis, the state's largest city. Known as the "Twin Cities", the two form the core of Minneapolis–Saint Paul, the 16th-largest metropolitan area in the United States, with about 3.5 million residents.
Founded near historic Native American settlements as a trading and transportation center, the city rose to prominence when it was named the capital of the Minnesota Territory in 1849. Though Minneapolis is better-known nationally, Saint Paul contains the state government and other important institutions. Regionally, the city is known for the Xcel Energy Center, home of the Minnesota Wild, and for the Science Museum of Minnesota. As a business hub of the Upper Midwest, it is the headquarters of companies such as Ecolab. Saint Paul, along with its Twin City, Minneapolis, is known for its high literacy rate. It was the only city in the United States with a population of 250,000 or more to see an increase in circulation of Sunday newspapers in 2007.

St. Paul (oratorio)
St. Paul (in German Paulus), Op. 36, is an oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn.
Background
The libretto was begun in 1832 by the composer with Pastor Julius Schubring, a childhood friend, pulling together passages from the New Testament (chiefly the Acts of the Apostles) and Old Testament. It also features chorales or hymn settings after Bach's manner.
Composition of the music began in 1834, and the work was premiered on May 22, 1836 (having been completed in April of that year) at the Lower Rhenish Music Festival in Düsseldorf. The English premiere was in Liverpool on October 3, 1836 in a translation by Mendelssohn's friend, Karl Klingermann. Contralto Mary Shaw was one of the soloists at the English premiere. The first performance in the United States was in Boston on March 14, 1837. Mendelssohn himself conducted the first performance in Leipzig in the Paulinerkirche on March 16, 1837. Numerous performances followed in Europe and in the United States.
During Mendelssohn's lifetime, St. Paul was a popular and frequently performed work. However, compared with such oratorios as Handel's Messiah, Bach's Christmas Oratorio and St Matthew Passion or even Mendelssohn's own Elijah, it has failed to maintain its place in the choral repertory and is now infrequently performed in its entirety.

Saint Paul Union Depot
Saint Paul's Union Depot is an historic railroad station and intermodal transit hub located in the Lowertown neighborhood of the city of Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States. It currently serves inter-city rail, inter-city bus, and local bus services. METRO Green Line also serves Union Depot, through a station outside the headhouse.
At one time the Saint Paul Union Depot Company controlled 9.24 miles (14.87Â km) of St. Paul trackage and terminal facilities, including the depot building. The company was operated in tandem with the Minnesota Transfer Railway Company, with effective control of both properties exercised by the same board, composed of representatives of the nine joint tenants.
The 4th Street entrance to Union Depot, the headhouse, is neoclassical in style. The concourse and the waiting room that extend over the tracks are viewed as a great architectural achievements. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It is also a contributing property to the Lowertown Historic District.

When Lucien Galtier, the first Catholic pastor of the region, established the Log Chapel of Saint Paul (shortly thereafter to become the first location of the Cathedral of Saint Paul), he made it known that the settlement was now to be called by that name, as "Saint Paul as applied to a town or city was well appropriated, this monosyllable is short, sounds good, it is understood by all Christian denominations".

Mendelssohn Saint Paul Overture played by John Scott (1956 - 2015). He was excited for the instruments completion, he volunteered to help raise money toward the restoration of this organ back in 2007. As soon as he hear that the organ was reinstalled in the church again he volunteered to record the Mendelssohn and a work by Frank Bridge in October 2013. He took the Q train to Brooklyn from Manhattan several times to practice in Brooklyn. On one of his trips he was studying the score to the Art of Fugue by Bach on the subway, he missed the Newkirk stop and went all the way to Coney Island. John Scott was held the highest and most distinguished positions in music world. He was honored by many including Queen Elizabeth II. Mendelssohn Saint Paul Overture played by John Scott (1956 - 2015). He was excited for the instruments completion, he volunteered to help raise money toward the restoration of this organ back in 2007. As soon as he hear that the organ was reinstalled in the church again he volunteered to record the Mendelssohn and a work by Frank Bridge in October 2013. He took the Q train to Brooklyn from Manhattan several times to practice in Brooklyn. On one of his trips he was studying the score to the Art of Fugue by Bach on the subway, he missed the Newkirk stop and went all the way to Coney Island. John Scott was held the highest and most distinguished positions in music world. He was honored by many including Queen Elizabeth II. He asked for nothing to make this recording, took nothing, but gave so much. You gave him back excellence. That must have been his secret to being one of the best choral conductor.
Months after this video was made John Scott died of a sudden massive heart attack (August 2015). The music community was devastated. Less then 24 hours after his death a Mass for the repose of his soul was said at Saint Thomas Church, more then 300 people were there. The rector said that for John Scott music was for the Glory of God alone. At his funeral the greatest choir in the United States sang the simple Gregorian Chant Mass from the Kryial. He could have had the grandest Requiem sung. As his body was carried from the church while the choir sang the Gregorian chant In Paradisum. I was struck by the plain, unfinished pine coffin that held one of the finest church musicians in the history of church music. Now I understand why you would not even allow me to give you a metro card for you and Lilly to use for your trip back to Manhattan from Newkirk Plaza.

Yes the ringer, swim trebles were quickly fixed - voicing issued from 1933 - the Newly restored organ had a punch list of some things that were quickly corrected in time for Olivier Latry a few days later. I wish Kilgen had taken a little more care. They got 95% of everything right the last 4% would have put it on a level of a Skinner or a Kimball. The organ is now better then it was likely new. I hope the parish and the Brooklyn Diocese sees to it good care.
The organ at Our Lady of Refuge was restored to pristine condition through an international appeal since the parish didn't have the financial resources to pay for the work itself. Over 1000 donations from around the world paid for the restoration of this pipe organ - many of the people who gave money have never been to Brooklyn to hear the organ in person. When Lucien Galtier, the first Catholic pastor of the region, established the Log Chapel of Saint Paul (shortly thereafter to become the first location of the Cathedral of Saint Paul), he made it known that the settlement was now to be called by that name, as "Saint Paul as applied to a town or city was well appropriated, this monosyllable is short, sounds good, it is understood by all Christian denominations".

Mendelssohn Saint Paul Overture played by John Scott (1956 - 2015). He was excited for the instruments completion, he volunteered to help raise money toward the restoration of this organ back in 2007. As soon as he hear that the organ was reinstalled in the church again he volunteered to record the Mendelssohn and a work by Frank Bridge in October 2013. He took the Q train to Brooklyn from Manhattan several times to practice in Brooklyn. On one of his trips he was studying the score to the Art of Fugue by Bach on the subway, he missed the Newkirk stop and went all the way to Coney Island. John Scott was held the highest and most distinguished positions in music world. He was honored by many including Queen Elizabeth II. He asked for nothing to make this recording, took nothing, but gave so much. You gave him back excellence. That must have been his secret to being one of the best choral conductor.
Months after this video was made John Scott died of a sudden massive heart attack (August 2015). The music community was devastated. Less then 24 hours after his death a Mass for the repose of his soul was said at Saint Thomas Church, more then 300 people were there. The rector said that for John Scott music was for the Glory of God alone. At his funeral the greatest choir in the United States sang the simple Gregorian Chant Mass from the Kryial. He could have had the grandest Requiem sung. As his body was carried from the church while the choir sang the Gregorian chant In Paradisum. I was struck by the plain, unfinished pine coffin that held one of the finest church musicians in the history of church music. Now I understand why you would not even allow me to give you a metro card for you and Lilly to use for your trip back to Manhattan from Newkirk Plaza.

Yes the ringer, swim trebles were quickly fixed - voicing issued from 1933 - the Newly restored organ had a punch list of some things that were quickly corrected in time for Olivier Latry a few days later. I wish Kilgen had taken a little more care. They got 95% of everything right the last 4% would have put it on a level of a Skinner or a Kimball. The organ is now better then it was likely new. I hope the parish and the Brooklyn Diocese sees to it good care.
The organ at Our Lady of Refuge was restored to pristine condition through an international appeal since the parish didn't have the financial resources to pay for the work itself. Over 1000 donations from around the world paid for the restoration of this pipe organ - many of the people who gave money have never been to Brooklyn to hear the organ in person. Many of those people are JAV Recordings's customers. These videos are JAV Recordings gift to them to say THANK YOU.
The restoration of the pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge in Brooklyn was spearhead by Joe Vitacco working with Fr. Michael Perry, Pastor and a terrific team at the parish. In March of 2016 and after 10 years Joe Vitacco retired and resigned from all volunteer work at Our Lady of Refuge in Brooklyn. Joe wishes the parish the very best and will miss that organ. It was left in the good hands of local organ builder James Konzelman.
The restoration work was carried out by two of the finest organ builders in North American: Quimby Pipe Organs and A.R. Schopp's Sons.
