17 year old Tasmanian girl dies in late-night cliff fall

A 17-year-old girl has fallen to her death from a high cliff at Blackmans Bay, a beachside suburb just south of Hobart.

The Richmond teenager fell from the cliff near Blowhole Road just before midnight.

Ambulance officers rushed to the scene but were unable to revive the girl.

A police boat also assisted from the sea.

Tasmania Police officers said she was with a group of friends and appeared to have travelled from a party in the nearby Summerleas Road.

Detectives said a number of people witnessed the incident and they were talking to her friends to try to piece together her movements, and the movements of the group.

Police expect to remain at the scene for the rest of the morning.

They have asked anyone with information to contact them.
