Australia's first baby spa opens in Perth

Baby Spa Perth

First time parenthood can be a big adjustment for many, and the notion of sleep can fast become an obsession for sleep-deprived parents.

Baths and baby massage have long been tools parents have used to relax their babies into sleep so it was only a matter of time until a business appeared which provides those things in a nurturing environment.

While the idea of a baby spa is not a new one, Australia has just received its very first one; Baby Spa Perth has just opened in Subiaco and provides relaxing water immersion and massage experiences for babies from 2 days up to six months.

Kavita Kumar and Anita Yap opened Bay Spa Perth after training in the original Baby Spa by Laura Sevenus in London. Sevenus invented the BUBBY flotation device, which cannot be purchased and may only be used in official Baby Spas by professionals.

At $85 for a one hour session, some mums - like Karalee Katsambanis - won't be convinced.

For those who like the idea, little clients receive 15-25 minutes of hydrotherapy, then 15-25 minutes of infant massage.

There's also a pretty Nurture Room where mums can feed their babies and relax.

Babies under 8 weeks float in what they call a 'neopod' and older babies in a larger hydrotherapy pool.

Staff are medically trained nurses and therapists who fit the BUBBY device and allow baby to experiment with movement and regulating their reflexes.

If you think baby needs a bliss out session and have a spare $85 to spend at Baby Spa Perth, book online.

If not, re-create the spa experience in your own home, preferably with a bliss out option for you too.
