Australian stars share their favourite Play School memories

The excitement of the rocket clock, the neglected arch window, and childhood crushes on presenter Benita Collings - these are just some of the things Australian celebrities remember most about Play School.

In celebration of the long-running show's 50th birthday the ABC asked local stars to share their favourite Play School memories.

A three minute clip posted on the ABC Kids for Parents Facebook page includes Bernard Fanning, Tim Minchin, the Umbilical Brothers, Carlie Pickering, Carrie Bickmore and Guy Sebastian reminiscing about the show.

"My favourite presenter was Benita, I had a bit of a crush on her I think," Fanning admits.

"I am here to say that I am an arch window man and a rocket clock guy," Minchin reveals.

The clip also features appearances by other stars including Delta Goodrem and Hamish and Andy, and lots of historical footage from the program's early decades.

But it's not only celebrities who have their favourite Play School moments: Essential Baby forum members have also been reminiscing about the show.

Singing the 'Ning Nang Nong Song' and waiting for the arch window to be chosen are among the favourite Play School memories for EB members.

"[I remember] when I went to a Play School concert and my mother jumped up dancing when even the kids weren't (so embarrassing) - John said sternly 'this is for the kids'. My mum went and sat down," one member wrote.

Meanwhile most former Play School presenters remember the special connection with their young viewers, but long-time host Benita explains that many adults were also appreciative of childhood favourite.

"I will always remember the time ... a man came up to me and said 'thank you for saving my marriage' and I looked at him and i didn't know what he meant," Collings recalls in the Facebook video clip.

"He said 'every morning at 9.30 my wife and I used to go back to bed'."
