More arrests as protests continue at Roe 8 extension site

There have been more arrests at the Roe 8 building site in Beeliar as protesters try to stop wetlands being cleared.

Eileen Glynn, from protest group Rethink The Link, said one of those arrested was the group's coordinator Kim Dravnieks.

Police horses trample Roe 8 protesters

The footage appears to show a police horse trampling on protesters at Roe 8.

She was detained after locking herself to a tree.

"She managed to lock onto a tree and she has just been arrested and taken away," said Ms Glynn on Saturday morning.

"We are holding out hope that if we can hold up work for any time at all maybe we can save a tree which is several hundred years old, or some of the local native animals at the site."

Police confirmed there had been a number of arrests at the site.

Protesters say they will continue to campaign against the project even as bulldozers clear the heart of the Beeliar wetlands.

Premier Colin Barnett says the protests are illegal, that demonstrators are putting themselves at risk and will be prosecuted.
