Director Asghar Farhadi can't attend Oscars over visa ban

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, pictured left with the Oscar he won at last year's ceremony, is nominated in the best foreign film category for his film The Salesman, inset, but there are fears he won't be able to attend next month's Academy Awards. His native Iran, which is where The Salesman was filmed, is one of seven countries listed in Trump's executive order that has placed a 90-day pause on visas and immigration to the U.S. Trita Parsi, president of the National Iranian American Council, tweeted on Saturday morning that Farhadi would be banned. It comes as visa, green card holders and refugees were blocked from entering the United States just hours after Trump signed the order on Friday afternoon. Seven migrants - six from Iraq and one from Yemen - were stopped from boarding a flight from Cairo on Saturday while up to twelve were detained after flying into New York's JFK airport, distraught travelers are pictured there top right. The 53-year-old had worked for the U.S. government in Iraq for 10 years as a translator, engineer and contractor and had a valid special immigration visa to relocate to America.
He was travelling with his wife and three children at the time but they were not detained. They were heading to Charlotte, North Carolina to start their new life in America.

San Francisco couple died from leaking 3-D printer

Roger Morash, 35, his wife Valerie Morash, 32, and their two cats died from poisoning due to the couple's laser 3D printer, which was ventilating carbon monoxide into their residence an officer said on Friday. They were found dead by a friend inside their apartment in Berkeley, California, on Monday. Researchers at the Illinois Institute of Technology warned users against the potential dangers of 3D printers for home use. When used in industry, the machine's use of lasers on types of plastics can emit toxic gasses, including carbon monoxide.

North Koreans shovel snow off road leading to ski resort

Rare images from North Korea shows thousands of workers, some of whom appear to be children, shoveling snow from a road leading to the hermit country's Masikryong ski resort. Scores of civilians were captured along the winding stretch during blizzard conditions hacking at the frozen ground with makeshift wooden shovels as oppose to using snow trucks, used in other parts of the world, to clear snow covered roads. A cat was stuck on a car exhaust for 12 hours before it was freed by mechanics. Sharley Fry's pet Daisy became wedged in the underside of a Citroen outside a neighbour's home in the UK. Attempts to lure her out with food failed so Daisy had to endure a 200-metre drive to a garage where mechanics rescued her. Footage shows mechanic Terry, 31, dismantling the car exhaust to get her out.

Cheeky cat learns how to open drawers so he can grab his favorite toy and play with it 

Bars, a Maine Coon kitty, was filmed by his owner opening one drawer at his home in Moscow, Russia. He then uses that as a stand to open the second draw in the cabinet. The clever kitty is then seen grabbing a fluffy toy with his claws before it falls on the floor, out of his sight. Bars walks off, confused, before returning and realising where it has gone, and lays down and starts to play with it. His owner, Tanya Shpakus, said: 'He's very stubborn and always achieves his goals.'

Mysterious UFO-shaped cloud appears above the mountains

A mysterious cloud which looked just like a UFO has baffled skiers who were stunned after seeing it in the sky. The bizarre sight could be seen over ski resorts in Sweden earlier this week and many stopped on the mountain to take photographs. Nature photographer Sara Björkebaum spotted the cloud and uploaded a picture of it to her Instagram page. Ms Björkebaum, from Sweden, wrote: 'Weird weather, cool clouds. I think I may jump on that spaceship.' Experts have said that it was a 'lenticular cloud', which typically form over mountain peaks.
