Qantas and American Airlines are hoping for better news from the Trump administration on getting their joint business arrangements approved.

In November, the US Department of Transport rejected an application to allow the two airlines to co-ordinate on things such as prices and flight schedules.

But Qantas said today it would refile the application, because it believes the November decision didn't take into account the intense competition on trans-Pacific routes, or the benefits that a closer relationship between Qantas and American Airlines have already delivered.

Qantas says the new application will focus on the benefits that deal will bring to consumers, tourism and trade.
