First we had to deal with ghosting: when your love interest stops responding to you in any way, vanishing off the face of the digital universe.

And now we have a new awful digital dating habit and it's wearing thin. It's called breadcrumbing.

It's the annoying situation where a potential special friend keeps the online conversation going sporadically without actually wanting to go on a date but never disappearing of the radar completely.

Like Hansel and Gretel, they leave behind a trail of breadcrumbs in the form of flirtatious messages. They may be talking to many people online, just for the buzz. But they never want to meet in real life.

Which is worse: Breadcrumbing or ghosting? Breadcrumbing, according to Twitter. Because at least you know they aren't interested.

Dating has never been so confusing.
