The election of Donald Trump gives us is an opportunity to renew the global human rights project. Attempts at demonstrating the universalism of human rights often stumbled due to an erroneous perception that they were actually a western concept. If the president of the United States openly turns his face against sixty years of progress, it could perversely help galvanise in all parts of the world - but only if we take seriously human rights in all their forms.

There is no point trying to shield children from such derogatory and demeaning language and hate-filled invective - not when the leader of the free world thinks it's acceptable and it's therefore reported on every media outlet possible.

I have seen first-hand how empowering restorative justice can be in giving the victim a voice and the chance to ask questions and helping address the harm caused. Restorative justice is not a soft option and does not lead to offenders escaping punishment.

Until there is solid evidence that burning your toast, cleaning your teeth, and having some gravy-drowned roast potatoes with your Sunday dinner causes cancer, I suggest you take these articles (and any others with equally tenuous links) with a pinch of salt and carry on living your life. Life is short - make sure you live it, don't just survive it.

So how does life go on? It's impossible to answer that. For those like Joe that survived, life went on in different ways. For them, the Holocaust isn't something that happened in history. It isn't just a lesson in a classroom or a page in a textbook. It's something they live with every day of their lives.

What I wish for is a world where people, irrespective of their background, race, religion or beliefs, are treated with respect. We must all stand together against xenophobia, prejudice and hatred and learn from each other's differences.

However, grand projects come with large bills. How is Mr Trump to pay for his Great Wall of America? Is this destined to be another white elephant infrastructure project, beloved of nationalistic leaders across the ages and around the world?

We must be able to count on the whole of Europe to continue to uphold the commitments it made to the Jewish community after the Holocaust. To ignore the warning signs is not just a grave threat to Jews, and to minority ethnic and religious groups.

Specialist women's centres are a vital resource for women often when they are at their most vulnerable and most in need of support.
