'Bush Capital' among front runners for new Canberra numberplate slogan

With a week to go before voting closes, more than 4000 Canberrans have put 'Canberra – the Bush Capital', 'Ngunnawal Country' and 'CBR – Driving the Nation' in the frontrunners for the ACT's new numberplate slogan.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr would surely be devastated as his favourite, 'CBR - Australia's Cool Capital', hasn't made the cut out of 10 options, which also included 'CBR - For All Seasons' and 'Australia's Meeting Place'.

The other options were 'CBR – Green And Clean', 'CBR – Brilliant Possibilities', 'CBR – An Active City' and 'CBR – City of Diversity'.

While voting is open for new additions, Canberrans also have the option to vote to keep an existing slogan, with 4200 votes putting 'Canberra – The Nation's Capital', 'Canberra – Heart of the Nation' and the image of Parliament House in the lead out of five.

The four of the five existing slogans will be removed from circulation if they can't take the top slot.

The ACT government received 2000 suggestions of a new catchphrase, with a shortlist of new slogans curated by a judge's panel which included 2016 ACT Young Australian of the Year Nipuni (Nip) Wijewickrema, Canberra Business Chamber chief executive Robyn Hendry and Cultural Canberra director Adam Stankevicius.

Canberrans can register to vote at www.yoursay.act.gov.au before voting closes on February 2, 2017, with government to announce the two winning slogans on Canberra Day in March.
