Paramedics treated the victim, who regained consciousness before being taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Police investigating the incident said two vehicles had stopped at the intersection, before a confrontation between a man from one of the vehicles and a man and woman from the other.
"The two men then became involved in a physical altercation before the man from the first vehicle assaulted the woman. He then assaulted the man again, resulting in him being knocked unconscious," police media said in a statement.
Police said the male attacker remained on the run.
