Woqooyi Galbeed (Somali: Woqooyi Galbeed, Arabic: وقويي جالبيد‎‎), also known as Maroodi Jeex, is an administrative region (gobol) in northwestern Somalia.[1] It is situated in the autonomous Somaliland macro-region.[2]

Overview[edit]

Woqooyi Galbeed is bordered by Ethiopia to the south, the Somali regions of Awdal, Sanaag and Togdheer, and the Gulf of Aden. The highest point in the region is Mount Buuraha Wagar (2004 meters), which rises southeast of Berbera. Its capital is Hargeisa.

Woqooyi Galbeed was later renamed Maroodi Jeex by the Somaliland regional administration.
