Cairns man charged after paramedics bitten, punched

A 61-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly attacked two paramedics in Cairns on Thursday.

Two paramedics had picked up a man from Mulgrave Road at Westcourt to transport him to the Cairns Base Hospital about 5.10pm.

On the way, the man allegedly punched one of the paramedics in the face.

The second paramedic pulled the ambulance over and was allegedly bitten on his arm as he tried to help.

Police were called and arrested the man at the scene.

The Portsmith man was charged with two counts of serious assault a person performing lawful duty.

He will appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday.
