The race for life: Things are set to get even more dramatic for Steve McDonald as he races to the registry office in a bid to meet the mother of his child, Leanne Battersby

In new snapshots of the ITV soap, the unlucky-in-love Rovers landlord can be seen sprinting from his car with an extremely worried appearance etched across his face.

Sporting a leather jacket and loosely-fitted jeans, Steve is forced to power through the doors to find Leanne - played by Jane Danson - before she signs on the dotted line.

It's touch and go whether Steve keeps his name off the birth certificate - considering Steve's wife Michelle Connor has no idea of the true identity of the baby's father.

By the time these scenes were shot, Leanne is already reported to have gone through a difficult birth.

Baby time! Leanne will soon go into labour, and the birth will be less than smooth sailing

A source told The Sun: 'Leanne faces a hellish birth as she gets stuck in a lift at Victoria Court just as her waters break. Her step-sister Toyah has to be the midwife.

However the difficult labour manages to bring the troubled character and Nick Tilsley - played by Ben Price - closer together: 'They decide to once again walk down the aisle, but Leanne’s secrets are bound to come out.'

But things are set to get even more dramatic in the cobbles as a distraught Michelle eventually discovers the news that her husband is the biological father to Leanne's baby.

With the news too much to handle, the barmaid eventually files for divorce from the pub landlord, which in itself will cause a colossal battle between the pair over who will get their hands on the Rovers.

Under pressure: Steve quickly grabbed a cab from his Street Cars company as he headed to the registry offices

Eager! Fans will eagerly be awaiting if Steve finally decides to tell the Corrie residents that he is the father of Leanne's baby

Michelle - played by Kym Marsh - has endured an incredibly difficult time after the tragic still birth of her child with Steve.

The storyline is close to Kym and Simon's heart: the actress suffered a miscarriage in 2009 and has bravely discussed the incident since.

Simon announced his secret heartache on Twitter last week after a cruel troll approached his wife.

Simon has been married to his wife Emma for 17 years and the couple are parents to three sons - Alfie, nine, Harry, seven and baby Teddy, who turned one last month.

The Corrie legend has previously divulged limited information about their tragedy after losing Teddy's twin in the early stages of pregnancy, when Emma told OK! magazine: 'Sadly only one of the twins survived. We're very lucky to have this one.'

Tired? Simon looked a little sleepy as he wrapped up in a cobalt puffer jacket

Chic: Kym Marsh looked chic in an all-black ensemble as she arrived at BBC Breakfast in Manchester on Friday morning

You what? The Michelle Connor actress looked a little animated as she made her way into the studios
