John Poppleton, from California, creates mindblowing works of art painted directly onto human skin using fluorescent shades. His project, called Under Black Light, consists of 'bodyscapes' of spectacular natural phenomena such as African sunsets, tropical oceans during rainstorm, and mountain ranges under moonlight. In more otherworldly, eerie designs the artist depicts cosmic scenes of stars, galaxies and shimmering auroras. ...read

Artist, 24, creates stunning sculptures using beaches as her blank canvas just one month after picking up a rake for first time
Chloe Dickey drew a huge floral design on a Port Macquarie beach on Saturday in under two hours. The 24-year-old from Lake Cathie, NSW, works in the wet sand at low tide meaning her drawings don't stick around for long when the waves roll in.
Feline arty! Artist loves her pet cat so much she's added it to works by Botticelli, Dali and even the Mona Lisa
A bizarre but strangely wonderful concept of classic paintings and fine art work 'improved' by a fat ginger cat, Fat Cat Art is rapidly growing its online fan base. The pieces are the work of Russian artist Svetlana Petrova who features her own cat Zarathustra in every picture.

Oczy Mlody (Bella Union)
The Flaming Lips rein in recent excesses with their most mainstream move since frontman Wayne Coyne got Justin Timberlake to don a dolphin suit and guest on Top Of The Pops. Bizarre titles and experimental arrangements remain, but Oczy Mlody is tuneful and accessible, with Galaxy I Sink driven by cinematic guitars.

Gentlewoman, Ruby Man (Glassnote)
London folk singer Flo Morrissey met American producer White at a tribute concert for the late country singer Lee Hazelwood, but this duets album confounds any preconceptions that might suggest. Warm and expansive where most similar efforts are cool and stripped-back, it finds the duo tackling The Bee Gees, Leonard Cohen, Roy Ayers and Frank Ocean with soulful guile. Gentlewoman is a rare thing a covers set that is refreshing and imaginative.

I See You (Young Turks)
The xxs third album sees the London trio move from shimmering introspection towards celebratory, groove-driven pop. The results are informed partly by DJ and producer Jamie Smiths dance-orientated solo effort In Colour, but the revelation here is Romy Madley Croft. Her sultry purr dominates I Dare You.

Live At Madison Square Garden (Virgin EMI)
Following in the footsteps of Drake, The Weeknd and Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes is the latest Canadian set for stardom. This digital-only live release offers a succinct career resume against a backdrop of screaming fans. Like Justin, the Toronto teenager began by posting cover versions online, but his soft-rock songs avoid Biebers fondness for dance music, looking instead to Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars for inspiration. He tours in the spring.

Only In My Mind (Virgin EMI)
London-based American Norma Jean ropes in the legendary Burt Bacharach, UK singer-swingwriter Ed Harcourt and Athletes Joel Pott on this sultry debut, but her songs of bruised romance owe just as much to her own experiences. The singer, 25, adopts the husky tone of Lana Del Rey on I Want You To Want Me before evoking the Sixties girl groups on Still In Love With You. The Bacharach co-write Im Still Here has the feel of a standard, with Martines bluesy pop making her a name to watch.

Stop The Moment (Epic)
THIS new edition of singer-songwriter Joness spring 2016 debut had been expanded in advance of a major promotional push, and the deluxe upgrade works well for the 21-year-old from Stevenage. With blues masters such as B.B. King as his role models, his tunes put a soulful slant on the folk-pop of George Ezra and Ed Sheeran. The newer tracks, one recorded on a mobile phone, emphasise his acoustic roots, with the sincere and spirited Rollercoaster the pick.
