6 simple Easter parade hats to make

Penny Flanagan

When I was in primary school the Easter hat parade was the privileged realm of children with crafty mothers. It was not an ‘all in everyone must participate’ mandatory activity but more of an optional suggestion. As a result, those who did choose to participate really went to town. And best of all, they actually awarded a prize for best Easter bonnet or Easter hat.

By that I mean: a real prize that only one person received.

As my mother was not crafty and I was a vague sort of a child who never remembered her library bag, let alone that the hat parade was on, I was relegated to the sidelines. I was one of the kids sitting cross-legged around the edges watching as a magnificent array of Easter hats paraded past. And I mean magnificent!
