A mother was shocked when she gave to a 6.4kg (14lb 1oz) baby last month.

LaQueena Grover gave birth to Loyalty Adonis Grover, who weighed a whopping 3kg more than the average US newborn, on December 6 in Louisiana, USA, WDSU reported.

She said her husband's jaw dropped when he first saw his son, and she was just as surprised.

Baby Loyalty was in NICU for 27 days.

"Right when the doctor was taking him out, my husband's mouth literally just dropped," Grover said.

"I swear, had I not been on the gurney already, I would have passed out right there when she said [his weight]."

Grover thought she may have been pregnant with more than one baby before giving birth.

"People would come up to me and say, 'Oh, I think that's twins or even triplets. Maybe there's another hiding behind one of the babies,'" Grover said.

But no - it was just Loyalty.

Loyalty is Grover's fourth child, and her biggest: her first two children weighed just over 3.2kg, and her third was 5.4kg.

Loyalty spent 27 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) but is now home.

Now a month old, he weighs 6.8kg and is 61cm tall.

"He wears a size three Pamper. He's supposed to be in a size one as a newborn. He wears 3-to-6-month-old clothes and he wears some 6-to-9-month clothes," Grover said.

He's got a big personality, too, his mum says: "He acts like the Incredible Hulk when he does not get what he wants. He does not like to be wet. He likes to be changed immediately. And he wants to eat as soon as he gets hungry."
