She bid an emotional farewell to her significantly older boyfriend before leaving Sydney and jetting back to her native Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.

And her apparent reluctance to leave actor Levi Meaden as he continues to film on location in the Australian coastal city was reflected in her latest appearance as she stepped out for a pampering session.

The Modern Family star, 18, kept her head down while calling into a local salon to have her long hair cut and dyed on Wednesday afternoon.

Emerging some time later, Ariel made a beeline for a local café, where she grabbed some much needed refreshments before making her way back to her car.

Sporting a simple grey sweater and ripped skinny jeans, Ariel cut a low-key figure while venturing out little more than a day after her lengthy flight home.

The actress returned to her native Los Angeles after spending time with boyfriend Levi 29, who is currently filming Pacific Rim 2 in New South Wales.

'They kind of glorify and objectify a lot of the things that I do, and I wish people would just see me as the normal 18-year-old that I am,' she previously lamented to Self magazine.

'I'm doing the same things that everybody my age is doing...people are taking it and making it [seem] like I’m doing stuff that is crazy when really I’m just being me. I wish people would see that.'

The aspiring federal prosecutor graduated from Campbell Hall School last June, and she plans on beginning her pre-law studies at UCLA this fall.
