Melissa McCarthy sports greying wig and carries a cat on LA set of Can You Ever Forgive Me?

She's known for her comedic chops but Melissa McCarthy is getting stuck into a drama this year.

The 46-year-old actress was on set of her latest project Can You Ever Forgive Me? on Wednesday and transformed into dowdy writer Lee Israel.

Melissa wore a short greying wig and toted a cute black and white cat in a carrier as she was pictured exiting a building in Beverly Hills.

Her outfit was a mix of formal menswear style garments with baggy slacks and a maroon v-neck sweater over a blue shirt.

A tweed jacket, also too big for her frame, was layered over the top.

It was a distinctly unglamorous look for the star who has been wowing on the red carpet recently.

Melissa plays the writer-turned-forger in the movie based on her memoir of the same name.
