The characters of Only Fools And Horses are seldom seen as style icons.

Yet Rod Stewart appeared keen to borrow tips from the Eighties show's frontman Del Boy as he touched down at JFK Airport on Thursday.

The 72-year-old rocker flaunted his unique flare for fashion as he slipped into a shearling coat and a checked flat cap - the ensemble many see as synonymous with David Jason's legendary market trader character.

Rod appeared extremely happy with his style choices as he strode through the airport rocking the funky ensemble which he perfected.

His shearling coat was buttoned along the chest, with the double-breasted detailing keeping him well wrapped up, while he popped the collar to add to the look.

The Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? hitmaker completed his ensemble with a checked flat cap, which was an exact replica of that worn by beloved character Del Boy.

Keeping the look coordinated, he paired his look with brown cord trousers and funky brown spats - to create an strong colour scheme.

While Rod was arriving in NYC, his wife Penny Lancaster appeared to have been swept up a little too much in the excitement and glamour of the National Television Awards on Wednesday night.

Appearing on Loose Women the following afternoon, the 45-year-old revealed that she was faced with a 'morning after the night before' dilemma after the annual awards ceremony.

Attempting to plan ahead, the blonde presenter left her belongings at the Loose Women studios ready for her appearance on the show the next day.

'I had to do the walk of shame!' While Rod was arriving in NYC, his wife Penny Lancaster appeared to have been swept up a little too much in the excitement and glamour of the National Television Awards on Wednesday night

However, she was left in a predicament on Thursday morning when she woke up at the apartment she was staying the night in after the awards without anything to wear but her glam gown from the night before.

'It was either wear that and do the walk of shame or put on Rod's dressing gown and slippers to come to work in!' Penny laughed, recounting the story to her fellow Loose Women.

The mother of two opted for the latter option, making her way to ITV ahead of her afternoon appearance trussed up in a robe and fluffy footwear.

Joined by her co-stars Katie Price, Jane Moore, Nadia Sawalha, Kaye Adams, Andrea McLean and Saira Khan on the carpet, all the women dazzled in their very best finery for the night of glamour.

Had Penny opted to re-wear her outfit on Thursday morning, she would have no doubt still looked fantastic.

She had chosen a long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder silver minidress, which oozed glitz, teamed with small black stappy heels.

She'd worn her blonde hair up on her head and added some small earrings to complete the look.

But this didn't quite go to plan as Ayda Field tried her hand at being funny by singing a line from her husband Robbie's song Angels, as a way of finally singing at the O2 Arena.

And the winner is... Ayda presented the Best Serial Drama award alongside her Loose Women co-star Penny Lancaster

The 'gag' was met with a wall of silence, however, something Penny feels bad about as she revealed it was her who encouraged Ayda to say it.

The pair presented the Best Serial Drama award, which went to Emmerdale.

Ayda also struggled with the word 'Emmerdale' it would seem, as Penny revealed they peeked at the winner beforehand, sending Ayda into a panic about how to pronounce the name of the ITV soap.

Clearly not fazed by all this stress, the pair were seen posing beside a large award statuette backstage, casting smouldering glances at the cameras.
