Shoppers shocked after a dead body is found in the middle of a Sydney Westfield shopping centre

A body has been found at a major shopping centre in Bondi Junction, in Sydney's east.

At least a dozen police with gloves and notebooks were seen on level four of Westfield on Friday morning. 

A New South Wales police spokeswoman said emergency services were called about 8.30am.

A NSW police spokeswoman said a crime scene had been established

'A crime scene has been established and inquiries are continuing,' the spokeswoman said. 

Detectives had not yet determined the identity of the deceased or how they died. 

The body was reportedly found in or near a fire escape stairwell.  

An ambulance spokesman said paramedics were called to the corner of Oxford St and Hollywood Avenue.
