Tennessee (i/tɛnᵻˈsiː/) (Cherokee: ᏔᎾᏏ, Tanasi) is a U.S. state located in the Southeastern United States. Tennessee is the 36th largest and the 17th most populous of the 50 United States. Tennessee is bordered by Kentucky and Virginia to the north, North Carolina to the east, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi to the south, and Arkansas and Missouri to the west. The Appalachian Mountains dominate the eastern part of the state, and the Mississippi River forms the state's western border. Tennessee's capital and second largest city is Nashville, which has a population of 601,222. Memphis is the state's largest city, with a population of 653,450.
The state of Tennessee is rooted in the Watauga Association, a 1772 frontier pact generally regarded as the first constitutional government west of the Appalachians. What is now Tennessee was initially part of North Carolina, and later part of the Southwest Territory. Tennessee was admitted to the Union as the 16th state on June 1, 1796. Tennessee was the last state to leave the Union and join the Confederacy at the outbreak of the U.S. Civil War in 1861. Occupied by Union forces from 1862, it was the first state to be readmitted to the Union at the end of the war.
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee (in case citations, E.D. Tenn.) is the federal court in the Sixth Circuit whose jurisdiction covers all of East Tennessee and a portion of Middle Tennessee. The court has jurisdiction over 41 counties with 4 divisions. Based in Knoxville, Tennessee, it maintains branch facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee; Greeneville, Tennessee; and Winchester, Tennessee.
District courts are a category of courts which exists in several nations. These include:
District Court is the name given to the intermediate court in most Australian States. They hear indictable (serious) criminal offences excluding treason, murder and, in some States, manslaughter. Their civil jurisdiction is also intermediate, typically being for civil disputes where the amount claimed is greater than a $75 000 but less than $750 000. The limits vary between Australian States. In Victoria, the equivalent Court is called the County Court. Below them is the Magistrates' Courts, known as the Local Court in New South Wales. Above them are the State Supreme Courts.
Austria has some 200 district, or local, courts, which decide minor civil and criminal cases.
Finland has 27 district courts (käräjäoikeus/tingsrätt), which deal with criminal cases, civil cases and petitionary matters. Each court is headed by the Chief Judge and other District Judges. In certain cases, the district court may also have Lay Judges. The cases are handled and resolved either in a session or in chambers. In simple cases decisions can be made by notaries.

An event sponsored by the American Muslim Advisory Council of Tennessee after a local govt official posted something on Facebook that offended local Muslims. Context for the meeting is that the U.S. federal prosecutor for the eastern district of Tennessee, Bill Killian, issued a statement that seemed to imply that some speech published on social media could be prosecuted as a hate crime. Killian's implied threat to prosecute people who publish things on social media that insult Muslims generated a wave of push-back on talk radio and conservative websites, and resulted in an overflow crowd of more than 600 people at this event on June 4, 2013, at a public conference center in Manchester, TN. I videotaped the event from a spot along the wall about halfway back in the room, so the audio is l...

Day 4 of Smell N Roses and Caveman Outdoors on the trails at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area in Scott County, Tennessee. In this hike, we start out at a familiar spot along the Grand Gap Loop Trail and continue for about one mile or so, passing by a great overlook. Then we link up with the John Muir Trail and take it in a southbound direction down into the canyon, passing many awesome rock features and the spectacular Fall Branch along the way. Once we reach the Big South Fork Cumberland River, we wanted to cross the river and use the Angel Falls Trail that runs along the east banks so we could hike down and check out Angel Falls. Since we could not get across the river, we decided to backtrack back to Fall Branch and from there bushwhack just under a mile along the w...
