PPL Corporation, formerly known as PP&L or Pennsylvania Power and Light, is an energy company headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA. It currently controls about 8,000 megawatts of regulated electric generating capacity in the United States and delivers electricity to 10.5 million customers in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Great Britain. It also provides natural gas delivery service to 321,000 customers in Kentucky.
The majority of PPL's power plants burn coal, oil, or natural gas. PPL also owns peaking plants, which require few operators and have a high profit margin due to their ability to rapidly come online when the price of electricity spikes.
The company is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker symbol NYSE: PPL.
PPL was founded in 1920 out of a merger of eight smaller Pennsylvania utilities. It gradually extended its service territory to a crescent-shaped region of central and northeastern Pennsylvania stretching from Lancaster, through the Lehigh Valley into Scranton and Wilkes-Barre.

Quite the contrary, the spinoff completed earlier this year has strengthened PPL’s focus, unlocked new value for PPL’s shareowners, given investors clear choices and positioned the company for a bright future of growth and success. It distributes electricity to about 4 million customers through regulated subsidiaries PPL Electric Utilities (1.4 million customers) and Western Power Distribution Holdings (2.6 million electricity customers). The company has 12,000 MW of generating capacity in the US and sells energy in key US markets through its PPL EnergyPlus subsidiary. Once a global power player with interests in distribution companies in a number of countries, the company has opted for the UK as its sole non-US focus. Western Power Distribution operates two of the 15 distribution networks providing electricity service in the UK -- WPD (South West) and WPD (South Wales).

In the wintercold I see the blood
clotting slowly in the snow
Unsung heroes cry in the night
may they die before dawn
Broken banners mourn fallen crowns
grieving swords lay all around
As the swansong touches the mountainside
unseeing eyes look at you
Can't you hear it
hear the sorrows vail
Oh, can't you see it
the newborn day
Impaled hearts welcome the end of pain
black blood releasing warrior souls
Vultures circle 'round the fields of grief
another graveyard, another tale
Can't you hear it
hear the sorrows vail
Oh, can't you see it
the newborn day
