FILM DESCRIPTION: One of the most powerful anti-war statements ever put on film, this gut-wrenching story concerns a group of friends who join the Army during World War I and are assigned to the Western Front, where their fiery patriotism is quickly turned to horror and misery by the harsh realities of combat. Director Lewis Milestone pioneered the use of the sweeping crane shot to capture a ghastly battlefield panorama of death and mud, and the cast, led by Lew Ayres, is terrific. Hello guys, thanks for watching our sixth relic hunting episode. In this video we show you the relics we found after spending a day in the German Eifel. We tried to locate US and German positions and we managed to return home with some good finds. This area has seen some heavy and ferocious battles in the end of 1944 and first months of 1945. If you have any questions, please ask. Thanks again for watching and we hope to see you again when we upload the next video! Small mistake, mortar tale should of course be mortar tail. No matter how many times you watch it before uploading, there's always an error in it ;-) Disclaimer: this video has no political motive or whatsoever, we only want to show you the traces of history that can still be found. Apart from the rules and laws that apply to ...

In the early days of World War 1, warfare is still based on ideas and ideals of 19th century generals. The technological progress during industrialisation clashes with obsolete war tactics (Plan XVII). Tens of thousands of soldiers lose their lives in carnage at the Western Front. The French Army marches into battle in bright uniforms, where the German Army awaits them with machine guns. Artillery already shows how brutal and effective it's going to be during the rest of World War 1. The foreshadow of this carnage could already be seen in last week's episode.
