The BA (Hons) course is aimed at students who are active in trade unions, worker organisations or community groups. It covers four main themes: Employment Relations, Law, Sociology and Economics, but requires no advance academic knowledge of these subjects.
The course is unique in the UK as the only undergraduate programme to analyse employment relations issues on a global basis, including attacks on workers’ rights, international migration, aging populations and other challenges for contemporary trade unions.
The Ruskin MA offers practitioners and scholars of such challenges the conceptual, analytical and critical framework for understanding and explaining labour movement change.

Abstract:
During the Suharto era, the official trade union was strictly prohibited from engaging with political parties and all but one of the ‘alternative’ unions publically rejected political unionism, preferring instead to seek recognition as a socio-economic force. In the early years of Indonesia’s return to democracy, too, trade unions sat on the side-lines in elections and depended on mass protests to advance their demands. However, labour leaders’ position on electoral politics shifted dramatically after the 2004 election. Increasingly frustrated with the government’s failure to stem labour rights abuses, the ineffectiveness of the labour law enforcement, and the weakness of the social safety net, many unionists concluded that they must engage in ‘formal politics’ if they are to secure more favourable policies for workers. By the time of the 2009 election, the question was no longer whether unions should try to influence politics, but whether they should do it by lobbying parties from outside the system or by running candidates for office.
In a context where the parties vying for power within Indonesia’s political system have made little attempt to define themselves by a commitment to particular policies, and have faced little pressure from outside to do so, trade unions’ efforts to engage in electoral politics are tremendously significant for Indonesia’s emerging democracy. Drawing on case studies from five union-dense locations in Java and Sumatra, this paper examines trade unions’ engagement in the 2014 electoral cycle and makes an assessment of its significance for Indonesian politics.
Short Bio:
Michele Ford is Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow and Director of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre at the University of Sydney. Her research interests focus on the Indonesian labour movement, trade union aid, and trade union responses to labour migration in East and Southeast Asia. Michele is the author of Workers and Intellectuals: NGOs, Unions and the Indonesian Labour Movement (NUS/Hawaii/KITLV 2009), editor of Social Activism in Southeast Asia (Routledge 2013) and co-editor of Women and Work in Indonesia (Routledge 2008), Women and Labour Organizing In Asia: Diversity, Autonomy and Activism (Routledge 2008), Men and Masculinities in Southeast Asia (Routledge 2012), Labour Migration and Human Trafficking in Southeast Asia: Critical Perspectives (Routledge 2012), and Beyond Oligarchy: Wealth, Power, and Contemporary Indonesian Politics (Cornell SEAP 2014).

WORKER SUES TRADE UNION
An angry worker has taken GMB to court for incompetence, breach of contract and for aiding and abetting discrimination in the workplace. Marian Lukasik, of Enfield, a recent independent candidate, has been a GMB member for a decade. When he made a complaint against discrimination at work, his union rep promised to help but got him sacked and in doing so obtained a big promotion for himself. When Mr.Lukasik went to his union office to represent him at the Employment Tribunal, GMB refused to represent him despite membership promises. He then fell prey to a crooked “lawyer” (wanted for drug dealing and a bomb scare) who took his money in advance but lost him the case, agreeing to drop the claim without his consent. Mr.Lukasik tried the courts on his own but failed to get justice and became ill. On his recovery he has taken out a claim for GMB. “They sold me out” says Mr.Lukasik, calling GMB “a toxic union”. “I went to their offices recently to talk to the London leaders, not only did they not let me in but called the police”. Mr.Lukasik asked about Derek Disley, the rep who made a career out of his loss of employment by a deal with the management. He told GMB that if Mr.Disley is a member then he does not wish to be one. GMB promptly sent him notification that his membership has been cancelled. A week later they received a writ for damages! Mr.Lukasik is confident that when the matter goes to trial, the extent of corruption and “inside dealing” will be publicly exposed. “The union has broken the law” says Mr.Lukasik. “It is against the law to discriminate and GMB backed the perpetrators”.

Advance (trade union)
Advance is a certified, independent trade union affiliated to the TUC representing workers within the bank Santander UK, the UK subsidiary of Santander Group. The union was formerly known as The Abbey National Group Union (ANGU) before it expanded to include staff of Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley following their acquisitions by Santander. Its aims are the supporting and representing its members in all aspects of their employment.
The current General Secretary is Linda Rolph, and it has its Head Office in Tring, Hertfordshire, with a current membership of 8,063. Of its total expenditure in 2008 of £631,230, £161,194 was spent on services to directly to members.
The union organises various levels of representative, members holding 'lay positions' (i.e. unpaid, and additional to work duties). These are: Office representative; Area representative; Health & Safety representative; Lifelong Learning representative; and NEC representative.
History
In 2001 concerns had been raised about whether the union was 'genuinely independent' of the Abbey National plc, however, following enquiries, the Certification Officer confirmed its status without the need for a formal review.

Trade union
A trade union (British English / Australian English / New Zealand English / South African English / Caribbean English; also trades union), labour union (Canadian English), or labor union (American English) is an organization of workers who have come together to achieve common goals such as protecting the integrity of its trade, improving safety standards, achieving higher pay and benefits such as health care and retirement, increasing the number of employees an employer assigns to complete the work, and better working conditions. The trade union, through its leadership, bargains with the employer on behalf of union members (rank and file members) and negotiates labour contracts (collective bargaining) with employers. The most common purpose of these associations or unions is "maintaining or improving the conditions of their employment". This may include the negotiation of wages, work rules, complaint procedures, rules governing hiring, firing and promotion of workers, benefits, workplace safety and policies.

Trade
Trade involves the transfer of the ownership of goods or services from one person or entity to another in exchange for other goods or services or for money. Possible synonyms of "trade" include "commerce" and "financial transaction". A network that allows trade is called a market.
The original form of trade, barter, saw the direct exchange of goods and services for other goods and services. Barter is trading things without the use of money. Later one side of the barter started to involve precious metals, which gained symbolic as well as practical importance. Modern traders generally negotiate through a medium of exchange, such as money. As a result, buying can be separated from selling, or earning. The invention of money (and later credit, paper money and non-physical money) greatly simplified and promoted trade. Trade between two traders is called bilateral trade, while trade between more than two traders is called multilateral trade.
Trade exists due to the specialization and division of labor, in which most people concentrate on a small aspect of production, trading for other products. Trade exists between regions because different regions may have a comparative advantage (perceived or real) in the production of some trade-able commodity, or because different regions' size may encourage mass production. As such, trade at market prices between locations can benefit both locations.

Abstract:
During the Suharto era, the official trade union was strictly prohibited from engaging with political parties and all but one of the ‘alternative’ unions publically rejected political unionism, preferring instead to seek recognition as a socio-economic force. In the early years of Indonesia’s return to democracy, too, trade unions sat on the side-lines in elections and depended on mass protests to advance their demands. However, labour leaders’ position on electoral politics shifted dramatically after the 2004 election. Increasingly frustrated with the government’s failure to stem labour rights abuses, the ineffectiveness of the labour law enforcement, and the weakness of the social safety net, many unionists concluded that they must engage in ‘formal politics’ if they are to secure more favourable policies for workers. By the time of the 2009 election, the question was no longer whether unions should try to influence politics, but whether they should do it by lobbying parties from outside the system or by running candidates for office.
In a context where the parties vying for power within Indonesia’s political system have made little attempt to define themselves by a commitment to particular policies, and have faced little pressure from outside to do so, trade unions’ efforts to engage in electoral politics are tremendously significant for Indonesia’s emerging democracy. Drawing on case studies from five union-dense locations in Java and Sumatra, this paper examines trade unions’ engagement in the 2014 electoral cycle and makes an assessment of its significance for Indonesian politics.

An angry worker has taken GMB to court for incompetence, breach of contract and for aiding and abetting discrimination in the workplace. Marian Lukasik, of Enfield, a recent independent candidate, has been a GMB member for a decade. When he made a complaint against discrimination at work, his union rep promised to help but got him sacked and in doing so obtained a big promotion for himself. When Mr.Lukasik went to his union office to represent him at the Employment Tribunal, GMB refused to represent him despite membership promises. He then fell prey to a crooked “lawyer” (wanted for drug dealing and a bomb scare) who took his money in advance but lost him the case, agreeing to drop the claim without his consent. Mr.Lukasik tried the courts on his own but failed to get justice and became ill. On his recovery he has taken out a claim for GMB. “They sold me out” says Mr.Lukasik, calling GMB “a toxic union”. “I went to their offices recently to talk to the London leaders, not only did they not let me in but called the police”. Mr.Lukasik asked about Derek Disley, the rep who made a career out of his loss of employment by a deal with the management. He told GMB that if Mr.Disley is a member then he does not wish to be one. GMB promptly sent him notification that his membership has been cancelled. A week later they received a writ for damages! Mr.Lukasik is confident that when the matter goes to trial, the extent of corruption and “inside dealing” will be publicly exposed. “The union has broken the law” says Mr.Lukasik. “It is against the law to discriminate and GMB backed the perpetrators”.

Thus, ASETUC supports the “Draft ASEAN Agreement on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Workers”, proposed by Law Reform Commission Thailand (LRCT) in the early 2015.

Until very recently, European employers and political leaders denied the need for any coordination in industrial relations at EU level. In 2011, however, the European Parliament and the Council adopted a new European economic governance regime that makes EU member states’ labour market policies subject to multilateral surveillance procedures. This paper analyses this ‘silent revolution’ from above and assesses trade unions’ responses to this challenge. It shows that the EU’s new governance regime does not follow the classical model of a federal state, but rather the governance structures of multinational corporations that control their local subsidiaries through the use of whipsawing tactics and coercive comparisons. Until very recently, European employers and political leaders denied the need for any coordination in industrial relations at EU level. In 2011, however, the European Parliament and the Council adopted a new European economic governance regime that makes EU member states’ labour market policies subject to multilateral surveillance procedures. This paper analyses this ‘silent revolution’ from above and assesses trade unions’ responses to this challenge. It shows that the EU’s new governance regime does not follow the classical model of a federal state, but rather the governance structures of multinational corporations that control their local subsidiaries through the use of whipsawing tactics and coercive comparisons. European unions and social movements’ difficulties in politicizing European economic governance are thus best explained by the ability of the new supranational EU regime to nationalize social conflicts. Roland Erne has been teaching international and comparative employment relations at UCD since 2003. He is also an adjunct professor at the ILR School, Cornell University and has been a fellow at the Centre for Advanced Study in Oslo as member of its research group Globalization and the possibility of transnational actors - The case of trade unions as well as a Marie Curie Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Social Justice, University of Oxford.
His work centers on European governance and the social and political implications of transnational movements of goods, capital, services, and people. He is interested in how interest associations and social movements - particularly unions - respond to processes of regional integration and globalization.
In European unions. Labor's Quest for a Transnational Democracy (Cornell University Press, 2010) Erne describes the emergence of a European trade union movement that crosses national boundaries and challenges the assertion that no realistic prospect exists for remedying the EU's democratic deficit.

In Part 6 of my Final Fantasy 15 Gameplay Walkthrough, I continue playing the side quests in Chapter 3. A lot of the quests were fetch quests, but they were still fun. We had to find a lot of Chocobos and give them potions. We also did a couple of hunter missions.
Welcome to my Final Fantasy XV Gameplay Walkthrough on Xbox One. During this let's play, I will focus on the main story quests and side missions. I will also try to include some of the more difficult hunts for your pleasure. I will keep all cutscenes in the game so that you as a viewer can experience the game as a whole.
I'll also try and record as many dungeons and special areas that I can find. I won't be using a guide, so I may miss a few.
The only Final Fantasy games that I've played are: Final Fantasy 13 and 13-2. I liked both of them. I didn't play Lightning Returns because it didn't look that appealing to me. I like the story of Final Fantasy games, but sometimes it can be a little cheesy. That being said, I've liked the characters and gameplay from the previous Final Fantasy games.

Entering the 2000s, the advanced employment problem such as ‘jobless growth’ became the conversation topic in Korea. In other words, job creation has become the most important problem in the relations between labor union and management. For job creation, the business communities, labor union and government need to work together to compromise and find consensus. When labor unions play social roles, they can be supported by people. On behalf of this, they need to contemplate carefully what they can do for job creation. Their social influence will be decided whether they find the solution or not. Policy researchers from many countries suggest that the roles of labor unions are to retrain an excessive wage increase and political and violent strike, to reconsider the flexibility of internal labor market, and to innovate workplace.
In this session, in an era of jobless growth, we would like to discuss the roles of labor unions for improvement of the employment rate.

Abstract:
During the Suharto era, the official trade union was strictly prohibited from engaging with political parties and all but one of the ‘alternative’ unions publically rejected political unionism, preferring instead to seek recognition as a socio-economic force. In the early years of Indonesia’s return to democracy, too, trade unions sat on the side-lines in elections and depended on mass protests to advance their demands. However, labour leaders’ position on electoral politics shifted dramatically after the 2004 election. Increasingly frustrated with the government’s failure to stem labour rights abuses, the ineffectiveness of the labour law enforcement, and the weakness of the social safety net, many unionists concluded that they must engage in ‘formal politics’ if they are to secure more favourable policies for workers. By the time of the 2009 election, the question was no longer whether unions should try to influence politics, but whether they should do it by lobbying parties from outside the system or by running candidates for office.
In a context where the parties vying for power within Indonesia’s political system have made little attempt to define themselves by a commitment to particular policies, and have faced little pressure from outside to do so, trade unions’ efforts to engage in electoral politics are tremendously significant for Indonesia’s emerging democracy. Drawing on case studies from five union-dense locations in Java and Sumatra, this paper examines trade unions’ engagement in the 2014 electoral cycle and makes an assessment of its significance for Indonesian politics.

Michele Ford is Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow and Director of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre at the University of Sydney. Her research interests focus on the Indonesian labour movement, trade union aid, and trade union responses to labour migration in East and Southeast Asia. Abstract:
During the Suharto era, the official trade union was strictly prohibited from engaging with political parties and all but one of the ‘alternative’ unions publically rejected political unionism, preferring instead to seek recognition as a socio-economic force. In the early years of Indonesia’s return to democracy, too, trade unions sat on the side-lines in elections and depended on mass protests to advance their demands. However, labour leaders’ position on electoral politics shifted dramatically after the 2004 election. Increasingly frustrated with the government’s failure to stem labour rights abuses, the ineffectiveness of the labour law enforcement, and the weakness of the social safety net, many unionists concluded that they must engage in ‘formal politics’ if they are to secure more favourable policies for workers. By the time of the 2009 election, the question was no longer whether unions should try to influence politics, but whether they should do it by lobbying parties from outside the system or by running candidates for office.
In a context where the parties vying for power within Indonesia’s political system have made little attempt to define themselves by a commitment to particular policies, and have faced little pressure from outside to do so, trade unions’ efforts to engage in electoral politics are tremendously significant for Indonesia’s emerging democracy. Drawing on case studies from five union-dense locations in Java and Sumatra, this paper examines trade unions’ engagement in the 2014 electoral cycle and makes an assessment of its significance for Indonesian politics.
Short Bio:
Michele Ford is Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow and Director of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre at the University of Sydney. Her research interests focus on the Indonesian labour movement, trade union aid, and trade union responses to labour migration in East and Southeast Asia.
