A pack of youths hurled abuse at police as a fight spilled onto the streets of Williamstown on Australia Day.

Police were called as a large group of teenagers clashed at the Williamstown Botanical Gardens on Giffard Street about 8.30pm on Thursday.

Williamstown resident and 3AW producer Brianna Travers witnessed the fight, which marred Australia Day celebrations in the area.

She said up to 100 youths were involved.

"They were drinking, being rowdy, yelling and verbally abusing cops.

"One kid was hit with a bottle to the eye, he was bleeding from that. Another male was surrounded by three police after the event and was seated.

"They spilled out onto the street afterwards."

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the group was mostly aged between 16 and 18.

"Police were called to reports of a group fighting in Williamstown about 8.25pm last night," the spokeswoman said.

"The group of youths was located near the Esplanade. After police attended the group dispersed."

No arrests were made.
