Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton collapsed while delivering his State of the State speech on Monday, striking his head on a lectern.
The 69-year-old Democrat was helped into a back room and appeared to be conscious.
House Speaker Kurt Daudt said minutes after the incident that Dayton was 'up and about'. The governor's office said an update on his condition would be released shortly.
The governor's son has confirmed via Twitter that he was with his father who was 'doing great' and thanking his followers for the well wishes.
Dayton was hospitalized in February 2016 after he fainted at a hot and crowded event. His office said at the time that he had been feeling pressure in his lower back — he had undergone elective back surgery the previous December — before he lost consciousness. Dayton spent just a day in the hospital, and said afterward he had been treated for dehydration.
Dayton has undergone a series of back and hip surgeries in recent years.
The governor fell about three-fourths of the way through his speech as he laid out the opening salvo in a brewing battle with Republican legislative majorities over where to bring the state after November's elections.

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton collapsed during his annual State of the State address Monday night in St. Paul, falling in a heap at the podium as legislators gasped and raced to help him.
Video of the speech aired by NBC station KARE of Minneapolis showed Dayton, 69, pausing for several seconds and reaching for a bottle of water. The governor then began slurring his speech before appearing to faint and falling to the floor.
The governor's office said in a statement Monday night that Dayton had simply fainted after having spoken while standing for more than 40 minutes. It said he quickly recovered and walked out of the Capitol under his own power.

This son of a Virginia preacher saw a number of his projects -- some with top-name artists like Dr. Dre -- shelved permanently. It was not until he signed to Atlantic recording artist T.I.'s imprint Grand Hustle Entertainment before he received the major-label backing needed to jump-start his career. Governor (full name Governor Washington, Jr.) embarked on his journey to become an R&B; star once he graduated from high school in 1990. He turned down his acceptance to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in order to form an R&B; group named Case Closed and left Virginia for New York. When his group's plans proved fruitless, they disbanded, prompting Governor to pursue the solo route. He earned a deal through the independent Warlock Records for his debut, Another State of Mind, in 2000. After that album's release, Governor continued to find himself around some of the industry's finest, working with hit-making producers Trackmasters, Wyclef Jean, and West Coast legend Dr. Dre. The stint with Trackmasters generated numerous tracks with 50 Cent (before his ascendance to superstardom); however, most of those collaborations went unreleased and Governor parted ways. When Jean got Governor signed to Atlantic Records, Dr. Dre wanted to work with the new artist after hearing his music. The two created about a dozen tracks, but those songs also found their way into obscurity. Jean did involve Governor in some of his projects, but the latter still found himself looking for a new avenue to put out his music. Through a mutual contact, Atlantic A&R; Craig Kallman, Governor was introduced to T.I., and the rapper eagerly signed him. Governor
A governor is, in most cases, a public official with the power to govern the executive branch of a non-sovereign or sub-national level of government, ranking under the head of state. In federations, governor may be the title of the politician who governs a constituent state and may be either appointed or elected. The power of the individual governor can vary dramatically between political systems, with some governors having only nominal, largely ceremonial power, while others have complete power over the entire government.
Historically, the title can also apply to executive officials acting as representatives of a chartered company which has been granted exercise of sovereignty in a colonial area, such as the British East India Company or the Dutch East India Company. These companies operate as a major state within a state with its own armed forces.
There can also be non-political governors: high-ranking officials in private or similar governance such as commercial and non-profit management, styled governor(s), who simply govern an institution, such as a corporation or a bank. For example, in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries there are prison governors ("wardens" in the United States), school governors and bank governors.

Mark Dayton
Mark Brandt Dayton (born January 26, 1947) is an American politician and the current and 40th Governor of Minnesota, serving since 2011. He was previously a United States Senator for Minnesota from 2001 to 2007, and the Minnesota State Auditor from 1991 to 1995. He is a member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), which affiliates with the national Democratic Party.
A native of Minnesota, Dayton is the great-grandson of businessman George Dayton, the founder of Dayton's, a department store that later became the Target Corporation. He embarked on a career in teaching and social work in New York City and Boston after graduating from Yale University in 1969. During the 1970s, he served as a legislative aide to U.S. Senator Walter Mondale and Minnesota Governor Rudy Perpich. In 1978, Dayton was appointed the Minnesota Economic Development Commissioner and married Alida Rockefeller Messinger, a member of the Rockefeller family.
Dayton gained national attention in 1982 during his unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign against Republican Party incumbent David Durenberger. He defeated former U.S. Senator Eugene McCarthy in the Democratic primary, and the general election became one of the most expensive in state history. Dayton campaigned as a populist in opposition to Reaganomics and famously promised "to close tax loopholes for the rich and the corporations – and if you think that includes the Daytons, you're right". After his defeat, Dayton returned to the Perpich administration until his election as Minnesota State Auditor in 1990.

State of the State address
The State of the State Address is a speech customarily given once each year by the governors of each of the states of the United States (although the terminology for this speech differs for some states: in Iowa, the speech is called the Condition of the State Address; in Kentucky, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia it is called the State of the Commonwealth Address.). The speech is customarily delivered before both houses of the state legislature sitting in joint session, with the exception of the Nebraska Legislature, which is a unicameral body. The speech is given to satisfy a constitutional stipulation that a governor must report annually, or in older constitutions described as being "from time to time", on the state or condition of a U.S. state.
The potentially unclear name reflects the dual meanings of the word "state"; the first refers to the general condition of a thing, and the second refers to the political conception of a state.
There are also many cities in the United States in which the mayor gives a State of the City address. Some American counties have county executives give a State of the County/Parish address, though these are much more rare.

Governor Mark is a quality standard for School Governing Bodies in England. It was developed in 2006. The process of accreditation involves assessment against a detailed framework covering all aspects of the responsibilities of school governance. Achievement of the award has a validity of three years, after which reassessment will be required, and allows the school to display the GLM (governance, leadership and management) Governor Mark logo.

Dayton was hospitalized in February 2016 after he fainted at a hot and crowded event. His office said at the time that he had been feeling pressure in his lower back — he had undergone elective back surgery the previous December — before he lost consciousness. Dayton spent just a day in the hospital, and said afterward he had been treated for dehydration.
Dayton has undergone a series of back and hip surgeries in recent years.
The governor fell about three-fourths of the way through his speech as he laid out the opening salvo in a brewing battle with Republican legislative majorities over where to bring the state after November's elections.

The governor's office said in a statement Monday night that Dayton had simply fainted after having spoken while standing for more than 40 minutes. It said he quickly recovered and walked out of the Capitol under his own power.
