The Chinese New Year celebration is looming upon us. Many believe that a new year brings a fresh start to both life and work. While ushering the grand festivity, we can’t stop but to wonder what is in store for us in the year of the Red Rooster. The probabilities of forecast seem to be endless and abundance. Hence, PropertyGuru took the time to sit and talk to Master Yap Boh Chu from the Yap Cheng Hai Academy to learn about the Feng Shui projections for the year of the Red Rooster.

2017- A Year of Conflict and Resolution

Let’s start off with the most anticipated question in everybody’s mind- What to look out for in 2017. Master Yap acknowledged that the new year would be challenging where conflicts ascend prominently.

“2017 is about conflict and the resolution of the conflict. This year sees the marsh and the mountains coming together. There will be a meeting of purposes towards later of the year. But before that happens, the world would be in a tumultuous state as there will be ups and downs,” explained Master Yap.

There will be a couple of months that we should keep an eye for as these months will bring tremendous impact on us, which include March and September.

“October is another month that we should be aware off as to quote the ancient text, ‘when heaven and earth would set their place’. It will be an important month for us, if you have anything that you want to do, that would be the time to sit, plan and implement. Or, start planning beforehand and implement it in October,” he added.

Same can be said about investment as Master Yap advised keen investors to spot potential investments at the beginning of the year and to take action during the second half of the year.

CNY Landed Property

O Property, Where Art Thou?

As for prospects in terms of properties, Master Yap has sound advice for property seekers and investors.

“Property in general is going to face a slowdown. Looking at the bright side, this is the time to buy especially if you have a war chest. I think it’s more of a buyer’s market right now especially if you are expecting to sell high,” he said.

If such woes are inevitable, there will always be remedies to ease the situation.

“We can’t change the ‘general luck’ of the world but we can change ourselves as the saying goes: ‘The mountains won’t come to you but you can go to the mountains’. First thing first, enhance your own personal Feng Shui. Look at the Feng Shui of your house and office. If you don’t believe in Feng Shui, I would advise you to be smart and look carefully. Don’t overextend, look for bargains as there will be bargains in the market,” he continued.

And being financially equipped really does matter when it comes to properties.

“Cash will be important; your liquidity is imperative. Be in a position to either buy with cash or able to get a line of credit. You should start to prepare for either one of them by now. There will be people who would want to get rid of their properties due to money or liquidity constraints. If you’re in the position to buy, there will definitely be bargains,” he emphasized.

Landed properties seem to be the ‘it’ property to purchase in the year of the Red Rooster, especially among individuals.

“I would say the auspicious investment trend would be landed properties especially landed residential as opposed to commercials or high-rises. Looking from a Feng Shui perspective, the mountains are the main feature of the year. The Mountains are considered as land and the water is said to flow towards the mountains. Hence, wealth is flowing towards the ground (in reference to landed properties),” he explains.

Trump Versus the World

Master Yap also highlighted that there will be countries facing significant changes as well as bringing poignant impact, globally.

“Trump is coming in; people are looking towards the outcome of his role as the president (of the United States of America)- would it potentially bring positive or negative impact. Hence, the West will have a year of ups and downs. Watch out for sickness and diseases from the West as the flu would make a comeback,” he said.

He also acknowledged that world’s economy giant, China will develop a lot in terms of education, new ideas and technology. Meanwhile, India and Australia might have a bit of a slump in the year ahead. As for Europe, Master Yap believes that they must resolve their immigration issues, which include Western Europe, Southern Europe and the old iron curtain countries. Nonetheless, things are looking up for Great Britain despite Brexit.

“South East Asia is going to be interesting to say the least. Indonesia and Singapore will not do so well. Nonetheless, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar will pick up. As for Malaysia, we may not do so well either. Again, first half of the year will be problematic as the second half will see things settling down for us. This will still be the year where things are just going along. But life goes on, we still need to do our business and work at it. It is not about folding things up in order to sit and relax. You have to work hard in the first half in order to get results in the second part of the year,” said Master Yap.

Is This Your Lucky Year?

Which Chinese Zodiacs will be having a great year in 2017?

Master Yap explains, “The Snake, Dragon and Ox will have a delightful year. I dare not say that they can make great investment but keep an eye for good investment. The Horse deserves a mention too. They will enjoy good fortune but they need to be restraint. They have the tendency to overindulge as the saying goes ‘In one side and out the other’.”

While the Rabbits and Roosters would be the ones encountering hiccups and problems in 2017 as the year is projected to be less of a smooth sailing journey for them.

However, it is always best to get your own personal Feng Shui readings instead of relying on general forecasts and predictions. Personal details such as date and time of birth can make a big difference in Feng Shui!
