This state typically faces the monsoon season from November until March with the heaviest rainfall recorded in November and December, often causing massive floods across the state, especially in low-land areas. The daily temperatures range from 21 to 32°C.
Malays make up the largest portion of the population in Terengganu (more than 90%) followed by Chinese, Indians and other ethnic groups. Being a state with a long coastline, Terengganu was famous for building traditional, highly decorated carved wooden boats called bangau. Other traditional arts and handicrafts include wau bulan, gasing, batik and songket. Silat, tarian gamelan and tarian ulit mayang are some of the cultural performances of Terengganu. The most famous local food is kerepok lekor. Other popular local delicacies include budu, laksam, sata and nasi dagang.
