Putrajaya is a planned city, located 25 km south of Kuala Lumpur. When the seat of government was moved from Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya in 1999 due to overcrowding and congestion in the city centre, Putrajaya became the federal administrative centre of Malaysia. In 2001, Putrajaya became one the three federal territories of Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.

This city is situated within the Multimedia Super Corridor. It is neighbouring Cyberjaya. Built to be a garden and intelligent city, more than one-third of Putrajaya is reserved for green spaces with emphasis on natural landscape and open areas such as Putrajaya Lake, Putrajaya Wetlands Park and Taman Selatan.

Some of the notable landmarks in this city include Perdana Putra, the Prime Minister’s office; Seri Perdana, official residence of the Prime Minister; Sri Satria, official residence of the Deputy Prime Minister;  Melawati National Palace; Istana Darul Ehsan; Palace of Justice; Heritage Square; Putra Mosque, and various government buildings. Other famous monuments are Putrajaya Landmark, Millennium Monument and National Heroes Square.

Temperatures in Putrajaya are typical of the tropical climate. It can decline to a low of about 24°C at night and reach a high of 33°C during the day. During the months of March to September, weather is usually dry and warm. The rainy season starts from November until February.

The development of Putrajaya started in the early 1990s. Hence, most of the properties in this city are relatively new. Some of the commercial properties in Putrajaya include shop-office lots, office blocks, retail space and shopping complexes. Many of the residential properties in this city are occupied by government servants who were relocated to work there. Popular residential properties are terraced houses, semi-detached houses, bungalows, apartments and condominiums.
