This 10 hour track of soothing white noise masks distracting sounds to help you sleep better or focus while studying. The sound will calm your mind which, in turn, is a key step to either sleep or concentration.

If your hard drive or a computer is beeping, it may have heads stuck on a platter. Just take it apart and move heads off the platter. Drive will work again and you can recover your precious stuff from it FOR FREE! Carefully turn the Disk platters in the normal spin direction and move heads carefully out and into park position. No clean room necessary, no special tools.

Just made a really weird and awesome discovery.
If you import an EXE file into an audio program as audio data, you hear all kinds of cool stuff. The most awesome by far for me was MS Paint.
It's probably one of the coolest things I've ever heard form something like this. All I did to the audio was master it slightly to make it sound less harsh to the ears, as well as remove a long section of noise.

This is the Windows 7 x64 edition of mspaint.exe. I used Adobe Audition to import and edit the audio, but one could just as easily use Audacity's "import Raw Data" feature. I imported this as 8-bit, 22050hz stereo audio. I faded in the beginning, as well as removing a long section of noise part of the way through. MS Paint Interpereted as audio data = Awesome music!
Just made a really weird and awesome discovery. If you import an EXE file into an audio program as audio data, you hear all kinds of cool stuff. The most awesome by far for me was MS Paint. It's probably one of the coolest things I've ever heard form something like this. All I did to the audio was master it slightly to make it sound less harsh to the ears, as well as remove a long section of noise. Here it is on soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/r2bl3nd/windows... This is the Windows 7 x64 edition of mspaint.exe. I used Adobe Audition to import and edit the audio, but one could just as easily use Audacity's "import Raw Data" feature. Just made a really weird and awesome discovery.
If you import an EXE file into an audio program as audio data, you hear all kinds of cool stuff. The most awesome by far for me was MS Paint.
It's probably one of the coolest things I've ever heard form something like this. All I did to the audio was master it slightly to make it sound less harsh to the ears, as well as remove a long section of noise.

This is the Windows 7 x64 edition of mspaint.exe. I used Adobe Audition to import and edit the audio, but one could just as easily use Audacity's "import Raw Data" feature. I imported this as 8-bit, 22050hz stereo audio. I faded in the beginning, as well as removing a long section of noise part of the way through. How can we *know* that a future aircraft will be less noisy than the ones we fly in today? NASA builds computer-based tools to predict those things, with certainty. This video is an "auralization" -- a visual representation of a complex set of noise data and predictions -- that shows the noise differences between one of today's typical aircraft and a possible future hybrid wing body aircraft. Arduino RTTY Decoder - Initial Test with Low Noise
This is an initial test of an Arduino based RTTY decoder using sampled audio data. The RTTY encoded data created from FLDIGI is sent to the PC's sound card which is connected to a series of audio filters and amplifiers. The Arduino uses auto-correlation to detect fixed mark and space frequencies. The Arduino samples the analogy signal from sound card at 9615 Hz (max for 10 bit samples) and performs an auto-correlation to identify the mark and space frequencies. For this test 830 Hz and 1000 Hz respectively was used. The presence of mark and space frequencies is used to frame a Baudot encoded packet. Within the cognitive sciences, cognition is now routinely described as embodied, extended, and distributed. They too recognize that cognition takes place beyond the brain, in between people, between people and things, and combinations thereof. The varieties of specifically human thought, from decision-making to reasoning and interpretation, are now considered one part of a broader cognitive spectrum shared with other animals, systems, and intelligent devices.
Today, the technology we mostly think through, with and alongside are computers. We routinely rely on intelligent devices for any number of operations, but this is no straightforward “augmentation”. Our cognitive capacities are equally instrumentalized, plugged into larger cognitive operations from which we have little autonomy. Our cognitive weaknesses are exploited and manipulated by techniques drawn from behavioural economics and psychology. If Vannevar Bush once pondered how we would think in the future, he received a partial response in Steve Krug’s best selling book on web usability: Don’t Make Me Think! “What’s on your mind?” This is the question to which every Facebook status update now responds. Millions of users sharing their thoughts in one giant performance of what Clay Shirky once called “cognitive surplus”. Contemporary media platforms aren’t simply a stage for this cognitive performance. They are more like directors, staging scenes, tweaking scripts, working to get the best or fully “optimized” performance. As Katherine Hayles has pointed out, media theory has long taken for granted that we think “through, with and alongside media”. Pen and paper, the abacus, and modern calculators are obvious cases in point, but the list quickly expands and with it longstanding conceptions of the Cartesian mind dissolve away. Within the cognitive sciences, cognition is now routinely described as embodied, extended, and distributed. They too recognize that cognition takes place beyond the brain, in between people, between people and things, and combinations thereof. The varieties of specifically human thought, from decision-making to reasoning and interpretation, are now considered one part of a broader cognitive spectrum shared with other animals, systems, and intelligent devices.
Today, the technology we mostly think through, with and alongside are computers. We routinely rely on intelligent devices for any number of operations, but this is no straightforward “augmentation”. Our cognitive capacities are equally instrumentalized, plugged into larger cognitive operations from which we have little autonomy. Our cognitive weaknesses are exploited and manipulated by techniques drawn from behavioural economics and psychology. If Vannevar Bush once pondered how we would think in the future, he received a partial response in Steve Krug’s best selling book on web usability: Don’t Make Me Think! How can we *know* that a future aircraft will be less noisy than the ones we fly in today? NASA builds computer-based tools to predict those things, with certainty. This video is an "auralization" -- a visual representation of a complex set of noise data and predictions -- that shows the noise differences between one of today's typical aircraft and a possible future hybrid wing body aircraft. The difference is pretty striking. The best part is, if these aircraft and their technologies become real, the areas around airports will be much more quiet.

This is an initial test of an Arduino based RTTY decoder using sampled audio data. The RTTY encoded data created from FLDIGI is sent to the PC's sound card which is connected to a series of audio filters and amplifiers. The Arduino uses auto-correlation to detect fixed mark and space frequencies.
The Arduino samples the analogy signal from sound card at 9615 Hz (max for 10 bit samples) and performs an auto-correlation to identify the mark and space frequencies. For this test 830 Hz and 1000 Hz respectively was used. The presence of mark and space frequencies is used to frame a Baudot encoded packet. The packet must be converted to ASCII and send via a TTY interface to a PC running a terminal emulator program.
My intention is to build a small portable transceiver that is capable of transmitting and receiving various digital modes. I select RTTY was the first to implement because it’s easier that the other digital modes.
The next test will decode actual RF transmissions.

In 2012, when most media pundits and political analysts claimed the US election was "too close to call", Silver trumped them all again, giving Obama a 92% chance of winning. Barack Obama has called him "my rock, my foundation", and Bryan Appleyard in the Sunday Times described him as "our age's Brunel".
On April 30th he came to Intelligence Squared to discuss the themes of his latest book, 'The Signal and the Noise'. We hear endlessly about Big Data, but when the quantity of data in our world is increasing by 2.5 quintillion bytes per day how can we find the signal in all the noise, the nugget of information that will help us make sense of it all, or maybe even predict the future? Silver explained how expert forecasters think, and describe what lies behind their success, covering the stock market, the poker table, politics, sports, earthquakes, the weather and disease control.
