In the final episode of “Journey to the Sea” we explore the wonders of Lundy with warden Dean Jones. Colonies of birds surround the island and if you dive beneath the surface, grey seals, dolphins, rare corals and even passing basking sharks frequent these rich waters. Part of Dean's job is to monitor the wildlife populations who make their home on the island and he has seen first hand the positive impact effective conservation measures can have as marine and terrestrial species show signs of recovery.

Lundy lies off the coast of North Devon, where the Atlantic ocean meets the Bristol Channel with nothing between it and America, a granite outcrop, three miles long and half a mile wide. In the hubbub of the modern world, it is a place apart, peaceful and unspoiled.
Most of Lundy’s income is earned during the spring and summer, so being closed due to the pandemic during peak months of the season has been devastating. Lundy’s reserves have been exhausted in supporting the island through this crisis and costs have been reduced wherever possible.

In the West Country we are spoilt for free roaming ponies, we have Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin moor surrounding us but there are also free roaming ponies living on Lundy Island a remote island 20km off the North Devon Coast. Jeremy and I hopped on a boat and went over to see them which was so much fun. Here is a video of our day surrounded by the sea, ponies, goats, seals and a few Highland cows as well! 😀 Emx

Carmen Lundy
Carmen Latretta Lundy (born November 1, 1954) is an American jazz singer, composer, arranger, songwriter, actress, and painter. She has been performing for three decades, with a focus on original material. She has been positively compared with Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. She is also the sister of bassist Curtis Lundy.
Biography
Lundy was born November 1, 1954, in Miami, Florida, and at the age of six began to study the piano. Her mother, Oveida, was the lead singer in a gospel group known as The Apostolic Singers. After Lundy joined her church junior choir, she decided to become a singer when she was 12 years old. While an opera major at the University of Miami, where she received a BA in Music, she sang with a jazz band and decided to sing vocal jazz. She cites Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack and Stevie Wonder as being among her first influences.
She moved to New York in 1978 where she was hired by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra and performed her first New York engagement at the Village Vanguard in Greenwich Village. The following year she had her first appearance on a self-titled album from a group called Jasmine featuring Bill O'Connell and Steve Berrios (West 54 Records). In 1980 she formed her own trio, performing with pianists John Hicks and Onaje Gumbs. She has also performed with Walter Bishop Jr., Don Pullen, Mulgrew Miller, Billy Childs, Terri Lyne Carrington, Kip Hanrahan, Courtney Pine, Marian McPartland, and the band Quasimode.

Lundy
Lundy is the largest island in the Bristol Channel. It lies 12 miles (19 km) off the coast of Devon, England, about a third of the distance across the channel from Devon, England to South Wales. Lundy gives its name to a British sea area and is one of the islands of England. Lundy has been designated by Natural England as national character area 159, one of England's natural regions.
In 2007, Lundy had a resident population of 28 people, including volunteers. These include a warden, ranger, island manager and farmer, as well as bar and house-keeping staff. Most live in and around the village at the south of the island. Most visitors are day-trippers, although there are 23 holiday properties and a camp site for staying visitors, mostly also around the south of the island.
In a 2005 opinion poll of Radio Times readers, Lundy was named as Britain's tenth greatest natural wonder. The entire island has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and it was England's first statutory Marine Nature reserve, and the first Marine Conservation Zone, because of its unique flora and fauna. It is managed by the Landmark Trust on behalf of the National Trust.

Lundy pony
The Lundy Pony is a breed of pony first developed on Lundy Island in England. The breed originated in 1928, when the owner of the island, Martin Coles Harman, introduced 34 New Forest pony mares, eight foals and a Welsh Mountain B strawberry roan stallion. Diana Keast, his daughter, explained why he chose to cross these breeds: “He wanted ponies with a bit of style and height. Dartmoor and Exmoor ponies were nearer and more convenient - after all he had to charter a special train to bring the ponies from Lyndhurst - but they wouldn’t have had the height he wanted.” The Welsh stallion died only a year after arriving on the island, having sired just one foal - a colt called Pepper. Luckily this first “Lundy pony” grew into an upstanding stud stallion, creamy dun with a black mane and tail. By the Thirties there were so many ponies roaming the island that about 50 were rounded up and sold on the mainland. During the war there was no way of shipping ponies from the island and the herd reached nearly 100. There was constant warring among the entire stallions so that in 1944 a number had to be put down.

Lots of things about her and her friends have come to light recently, including her predatory behaviour, excessive substance abuse, deplorable cockiness and disrespect... and on top of the her persistent use of the "n" word.
This behaviour is unacceptable, stop supporting people just because they are conventionally attractive. Support people who are good humans, support people who bring value to your life, support people who help you learn and grow and be better humans.

In the West Country we are spoilt for free roaming ponies, we have Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin moor surrounding us but there are also free roaming ponies living on Lundy Island a remote island 20km off the North Devon Coast. Jeremy and I hopped on a boat and went over to see them which was so much fun. Here is a video of our day surrounded by the sea, ponies, goats, seals and a few Highland cows as well! 😀 Emx

Carmen Lundy
Carmen Latretta Lundy (born November 1, 1954) is an American jazz singer, composer, arranger, songwriter, actress, and painter. She has been performing for three decades, with a focus on original material. She has been positively compared with Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. She is also the sister of bassist Curtis Lundy.
Biography
Lundy was born November 1, 1954, in Miami, Florida, and at the age of six began to study the piano. Her mother, Oveida, was the lead singer in a gospel group known as The Apostolic Singers. After Lundy joined her church junior choir, she decided to become a singer when she was 12 years old. While an opera major at the University of Miami, where she received a BA in Music, she sang with a jazz band and decided to sing vocal jazz. She cites Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack and Stevie Wonder as being among her first influences.
She moved to New York in 1978 where she was hired by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra and performed her first New York engagement at the Village Vanguard in Greenwich Village. The following year she had her first appearance on a self-titled album from a group called Jasmine featuring Bill O'Connell and Steve Berrios (West 54 Records). In 1980 she formed her own trio, performing with pianists John Hicks and Onaje Gumbs. She has also performed with Walter Bishop Jr., Don Pullen, Mulgrew Miller, Billy Childs, Terri Lyne Carrington, Kip Hanrahan, Courtney Pine, Marian McPartland, and the band Quasimode.
