San Miguel Beermen

The San Miguel Beermen are a professional basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The franchise is owned by the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) since 1975. They are one of three PBA ball clubs owned by the SMC group of companies along with the Star Hotshots and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and are the most successful team in the history of the PBA. They are the only remaining original franchise in the PBA and currently leads the league with the most number of PBA titles with 22 and most all-time franchise victories with more than 1,200 wins to date. In addition, they have won the most-coveted and rare Grand Slam in 1989. They are also the only team to have ever won at least one PBA title in each of the five numerical decades of the league's existence thus far and are the first professional basketball team in the world ever to come back from a 0-3 deficit to win a best-of-seven playoff series, which they were able to achieve against the Alaska Aces during the 2015–16 PBA Philippine Cup Finals. The victory thus enabled the Beermen to tie the Hotshots for the most all-time PBA Philippine Cup titles with six to date.

Southern Professional Hockey League

The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) is a professional ice hockey league based in Huntersville, North Carolina, with teams located in the southeastern United States and Illinois in the midwestern United States.

The Knoxville Ice Bears are the most recent President's Cup Champions, having won their 4th title on April 18, 2015.

History

The SPHL's history traces back to three other short-lived leagues. The Atlantic Coast Hockey League started play in the 2002–03 season. After its only season, the ACHL dissolved with member teams forming the nucleus for two rival leagues, the South East Hockey League and the World Hockey Association 2. After one season the SEHL and WHA2 disbanded, with their surviving teams rejoining with two expansion teams to form the SPHL, commencing with the 2004–05 season.

In 2009, the SPHL saw a large expansion with three new franchises in Biloxi, Mississippi,Lafayette, Louisiana and Pensacola, Florida. In 2010, the league added an expansion team in Augusta, Georgia, another former long time ECHL market. For the 2011–12 season, the league added 2-time Central Hockey League champions, the Mississippi RiverKings. For the 2013–14 season, the league expanded northward with two franchises in Illinois: the Bloomington Thunder, a new team moving from the CHL, where they were known as the Bloomington Blaze, and the Peoria Rivermen, who are replacing an American Hockey League team of the same name in their market.

PBA Commissioner's Cup

The PBA Commissioner's Cup is a tournament of the Philippine Basketball Association. The tournament require teams to hire a single import. The event was the league's second conference from 1993 to 2002. However, in 2003, the tournament was scrapped and was replaced by an Invitational tournament. The tournament was revived in 2011 after the league re-adopted the three conference format.

The Commissioner's Cup also refers to the trophy awarded to the champion team.

History

During the 1993 PBA season, the league moved the All-Filipino Conference as the first tournament of the season and made the Second Conference as the Commissioner's Cup, a reference to the PBA Commissioner. The conference was the second tournament held in a PBA season.

The Swift/Sunkist franchise won the tournament in 1993 and 1995. Purefoods, with Kenny Redfield as import and Chot Reyes as head coach, defeated Alaska in 1994.

During Alaska's grandslam season of 1996, they won the Commissioners Cup title over Shell in a grueling seven-game series. The Gordon's Gin Boars ended their six-year drought, winning over the Milkmen in 1997, giving playing coach Robert Jaworski his last PBA title on both capacities. A year later, Alaska had Devin Davis as import to win the title over San Miguel.
