Η θεωρία του Μαρξ αποτελεί κατά βάση κριτική της πολιτικής οικονομίας και πιο συγκεκριμένα, την κριτική του κυρίαρχου οικονομικο-πολιτικού συστήματος της εποχής της αυξανόμενης βιομηχανίας του 19ου αιώνα. Ο βιομηχανικός κόσμος, όπως και η άνοδος του καπιταλισμού, φαίνεται ταυτόχρονα να υπόσχονται έναν αυξανόμενο τεχνολογικό και οικονομικό πλούτο, αναπτύσσοντας παράλληλα πολλές αντιθέσεις εντός της κοινωνίας. As the civil war in Syria continues, in the territory of Rojava – in Kurdish, 'the West' – the northern Syrian Kurdish political movement is attempting to implement 'libertarian municipalism', based on the thoughts of United States (US) anarchist Murray Bookchin. Since the withdrawal of Syrian regime forces in 2012, the movement has consolidated significant territorial gains as a US ally in the anti-Islamic State (IS) struggle, while simultaneously securing Russian support. Viewed with suspicion by Turkey, Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan, the geopolitical conditions of Rojava's emergence are its greatest impediment. This article analyses Rojava's model of rule and socioeconomic development, and its theory and practice in the context of the civil war, and regional Middle Eastern and wider global geopolitics. It reflects on Rojava's place and meaning for contemporary geopolitics in the Middle East, and considers the territory's prospects, discussing its transformative potential for an otherwise troubled region. read full story / add a comment

A strategy to defend our communities and to challenge Trump begins with us, the exploited workers. Together we hold the solution to Trump and to the bigger problems of capitalism, patriarchy, and white supremacy. Some sections of the ruling classes may share our desire to get rid of Trump, but only so that they can put another capitalist in the White House and then have us go through this cycle of crisis all over again. While we may end up marching with these people in the streets for the next four years, we know that our allies are those who also work to build the independent power of the exploited classes, not those who want us to pin our hopes on political candidates. We must push for greater unity of working-class social movements. We need to reach out to others who are doing organizing in our areas and talk to them about working together. We should push for social movement organizations that we are part of – like labor unions, Black Lives Matter chapters, immigrant rights organizations – to organize city-wide summits to plan how to support each other and how to coordinate opposition to Trump. Between now and January 20th, we should organize as much national discussion and coordination between social movements and revolutionary organizations as possible. We should plan for mass protests on Trump’s inauguration day, and we should see these protests as organizing tools to continue building unity and to draw people into the day-to-day organizing in our communities where we will really be building the long-term power that we need to be a threat to the state. Con una participación de apenas el 37% del electorado, el NO se impuso, con un 50% de los votos, por un breve margen de menos de un 1%. En circunstancias normales, este resultado se vería como un empate técnico. Sin embargo, la derrota política sufrida por los sectores políticos que han respaldado el acuerdo de paz entre el gobierno de Santos y las FARC-EP no puede ser minimizada. La campaña del NO, en estricto rigor, no tenía que ganar para ganar: le hubiera bastado tener un margen de votos lo suficiente amplio como para poner un signo de interrogación y quitar piso de legitimidad a lo acordado en La Habana. En cambio, lograron mucho más que eso, imponiéndose en el conteo final en una jornada electoral cuyos altos niveles de abstención tampoco pueden atribuirse exclusivamente a la lluvia. Τι πήγε στραβά; Η είδηση ότι η ειρηνευτική συμφωνία μεταξύ της κολομβιανής κυβέρνησης και των ανταρτών των FARC-EP απορρίφθηκε από τους ψηφοφόρους στο πανεθνικό δημοψήφισμα της περασμένης Κυριακής, 2 Οκτωβρίου, συντάραξε όλο τον κόσμο. En el plebiscito realizado el día de ayer, 2 de octubre, en el que se sometía a votación la aprobación del Acuerdo Final para la terminación del conflicto armado firmado entre el gobierno de Juan Manuel Santos y la insurgencia de las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia – Ejército del Pueblo (FARC-EP)[1], ha ganado de forma inesperada y por escaso margen la opción del NO, lo que sin duda constituye un gran terremoto político. Según el boletín 53 de la Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil, con el 99,98% de las mesas escrutadas, se imponía por el estrecho margen de 0.45% y 53.894 votos, la opción del “no” con 50.21% y 6´431.376 votos, frente a la opción del “sí” que contaba con 49.78% con 6´377.482 votos. Según esta misma fuente, en esta misma votación se registraron 86.243 votos no marcados y 170.946 votos nulos, en un pobre marco de participación de 13´064.973 sobre un censo de 34´899.945, el 37.43% del total[2].
