Rae Sremmurd

Rae Sremmurd is an American hip hop duo, composed of two brothers, Khalif "Swae Lee" Brown (20 years old) and Aaquil "Slim Jimmy" Brown (22 years old). They are best known for their platinum singles "No Flex Zone" and "No Type"; the latter peaked at numbers 36 and 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100, respectively. They are based in Atlanta, Georgia. Their debut album SremmLife was released on January 6, 2015. The name "Rae Sremmurd" is derived from the duo's home label, EarDrummers, by spelling each word backwards. The two have drawn comparison to Kris Kross.

History

2013: Career beginnings

The duo had been working for several years under the moniker "Dem Outta St8 Boyz", producing music at home and playing at local parties in their mom's basement and bars respectively. Back then they went by the names Kid Krunk (Swae Lee), Caliboy (Slim Jimmy) and Lil Pantz who is no longer a part of the group. They used money from their part-time jobs to be able to partake in traveling and auditioning in contests. The boys performed as a trio with additional kid, Andre Harrys and appeared on television during the "Wild Out Wednesday" segment of BET's hip hop and R&B show 106 and Park. The trio appeared on the segment for a second time, in which they finished second place overall in the competition, and had also managed to have meetings with representatives from record labels Def Jam Recordings and Sony Music, although they were unable to sign a record deal.

No Type

"No Type" is a song by American hip hop duo Rae Sremmurd. It was released on September 15, 2014 by EarDrumma and Interscope as the second single from their debut album SremmLife (2015). The song was produced by EarDrummers-founder, Mike Will Made It. Since its release, the song has peaked at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming their highest charting single to date. The music video of the song was released on September 17, 2014.

Carly Rae Jepsen (born November 21, 1985) is a Canadian singer and songwriter from Mission, British Columbia, and later based in Vancouver. In 2007, she placed third in Canadian Idol season five's competition. Jepsen independently released her debut album, Tug of War, in 2008. In 2011, she released the single "Call Me Maybe", which was followed in 2012 by her debut EP, Curiosity, and her second album, Kiss. "Call Me Maybe" reached number one in 18 countries during 2012 and was the year's best-selling single worldwide. Jepsen's third album, Emotion, was released in 2015 with mostly positive reviews, and was heavily influenced by songs from the 1980s. Its lead single "I Really Like You" reached the top 5 in the United Kingdom, the top 10 in Japan, top 15 in Jepsen's native Canada, and top 40 in the United States.

Entertainment. Rich Homie Quan was artistically influenced by dirty south rap; including Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane, T.I., Lil Boosie, Lil Wayne, Kilo Ali, Outkast, and Goodie Mob.

Early life

In school, Lamar was a 'quiet kid' with an interest in poetry. He had a particular interest in reading. Literature was his favorite subject and enjoyed creative writing classes.

Rich Homie Quan played baseball for four years, while he attended Atlanta, Georgia's Ronald McNair Sr. High School, and had aspirations to play professionally. As center fielder and leadoff hitter, Quan began playing at the varsity level during his freshman year and earned a scholarship offer from Fort Valley State University. However, Quan decided to focus his interests elsewhere; he began rapping and got a job at a nearby airport. When he lost his job, Quan got involved in illegal activities which included stealing, and that eventually led to him serving 15 months in prison for burglary. "I never saw myself going this far with music. Music was just a hobby at first. I never saw myself being on stage and rocking out shows. After I got out of jail, I started to take it more serious, and that’s when my dream came true.", he said in an interview to XXL. When he got out of jail, he decided he would be shy no more. "I knew this was all I had and I wanted to go hard at it, so that's what I did", he said.
