The crowd at Federation Square - estimated by some to be up to 50,000 people - is believed to have eclipsed the number of people who attended the earlier Australia Day march along Swanston Street.

The Facebook post suggests the boy is one of the 15 inmates who escaped from the centre on Wednesday.
The teen also found time to chat with his Facebook friends, one of whom commented on the post saying: "I f---en love you." To which the teen responded: "I love you more baby."
Another said "Aha come my way brother," while a third noted: "He's escaped malmsbury."

Four more teen escapees were arrested on Thursday morning, with three still on the run after busting out of the centre during a riot.
A violent overnight crime wave ensued, police said.
Victoria's adult prison anti-riot squad could be sent into youth justice facilities as part of a suite of new measures being considered by the Andrews government in response to a spate of breakouts, assaults and property damage.
Premier Daniel Andrews, in his first comments on the outbreak, told the Nine Network the incident would "lead to significant change" in youth justice.Â
He said the Minister for Children Jenny Mikakos, who is facing calls for her resignation, had his "full support" and was doing the best she could in challenging circumstances.Â
