District 11 that covers Newton and Novena comprises many exclusive private housing, renowned institutions and religious structures. Many educational institutions in the vicinity of Dunearn include Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, Chinese High, Hwa Chong Junior College and Anglo-Chinese School. Places of worship that reflect the cultural diversity of Singapore also revolve around the area ranging from temples to churches like the Phor Beng See Temple, Kuan Yin Temple, Bethlehem Bible Presbyterian Church and The Korean Church in Singapore. Notable commercial buildings can also be found in this district, including the Copthorne Orchid Hotel and Raffles Town Club.

The roads, buildings and MRT Station are named after the Novena Church (also known as the Church of St. Alphonsus) that lies within its vicinity. Comparatively, residences in Novena are more expensive because of the prime location and amenities available. Hence, one can easily find many condominiums like Birmingham Mansions and the Lion Towers in Novena, but realize that there are no HDB apartments in sight. Novena encompasses several amenities like the Novena Square Shopping Mall, Velocity that caters to sports enthusiasts and United Square that accommodates to young kids and toddlers.

A second main component of District 11 is Newton which is known for its food centres, in particular the Newton Food Centre that consists of a wide variety of delicious local foods like oyster omelet, popiah, barbequed chicken wings and seafood.
