A man charged with possessing and supplying a dangerous drug linked to the death of a Victorian amateur footballer on the Gold Coast will stand trial.

Matthew John Bailey was committed to stand trial on Tuesday at a date to be determined in Southport District Court on one count each of possessing and supplying a dangerous drug.

Mr Bailey and co-accused Bradley Allan Morgan are alleged to have supplied a drug that led to a mass overdose on the Gold Coast and the death of 27-year-old Riki Stephens while he was in Queensland on an end-of-season football trip.

Mr Stephens became unwell after taking what police believe was a cocktail of hallucinogenic substances.

Toxicology reports showed Mr Stephens had taken MDMA and a synthetic version of LSD known as 'N Bomb'.

More than 20 people required treatment following the overdose incident in October.

Mr Morgan's matter has been adjourned until February 14.
