Ten News culls anchors leaving Sandra Sully, Stephen Quartermain, Georgina Lewis only

Ten is kicking off the 2017 ratings period by streamlining its flagship Ten Eyewitness News bulletins to just a single face across its Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane broadcasts.

The shake-up, effective from February 13 when ratings monitoring recommences, results in three of the city co-hosts being culled in a move the network says will make its coverage more uniform across the nation.

Sandra Sully will front the Sydney bulletin, Stephen Quartermain will head Melbourne and Georgina Lewis will present the Brisbane edition of Ten Eyewitness News First at Five.

The disposed of presenters in the three cities, Hugh Riminton, Candice Wyatt and Lachlan Kennedy, will take on new roles as senior reporters.

Riminton will return to his roots with the specific remit of political and foreign coverage, and special investigations.

Bulletins in Adelaide and Perth, which already operate with a single presenter in Rebecca Morse and Narelda Jacobs respectively, remain unaffected.

Ten's executive news director John Choueifate gave a cagey response to the move in a statement from the network.

"We have had single presenters of our 5pm News in Adelaide and Perth for years. It makes sense to move to that model in the other cities and, at the same time, strengthen our reporting teams," he said.

"Hugh, Candice and Lachlan are quality journalists who add years of experience to our reporting line-up. I'm thrilled to have them back on the road."
