Adivasi (Hindi: आदिवासी, IPA: [aːd̪ɪˈʋaːsi]) is an umbrella term for a heterogeneous set of ethnic and tribal groups considered the aboriginal population of South Asia. Adivasi make up 8.6% of India's population or 104 million according to the 2011 census and a large percentage of Nepalese population. They comprise a substantial indigenous minority of the population of India and Nepal. The same term Adivasi is used for the ethnic minorities of Bangladesh, the native Tharu people of Nepal and also to the native Vedda people of Sri Lanka (Sinhalese: ආදී වාස). The word is also used in the same sense in Nepal, as is another word, janajati (Nepali: जनजाति; janajāti), although the political context differed historically under the Shah and Rana dynasties. Adivasi societies are particularly present in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and some north-eastern states, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Many smaller tribal groups are quite sensitive to ecological degradation caused by modernisation. Both commercial forestry and intensive agriculture have proved destructive to the forests that had endured swidden agriculture for many centuries. Adivasis in central part of India have been victims of the Naxalite insurgency and the Salwa Judum campaign by the Government.

One day Vishal is abducted and brutally killed in the presence of his younger brother, Jugnu. Jugnu himself is missing, and believed dead. Honest and diligent Gandhian Raghunath is outraged by this, and complains to the Chief Minister, Omiji. When Omiji attempts to inquire into this, his son is framed for selling tainted glucose in hospitals, which results in several deaths. Powerless to act, Omiji hesitates, and as a result Raghunath is killed. And then Jugnu returns, and now he must avenge his brother's death, but he is alone, and has an uphill task.

He was receiving the Bartolomé de las Casas Award from the Prince of Asturias. His personal hero, Don Quixote, the great legend that follows him everywhere, looks quite a bit like him. Although it has no windmills, the rain forest is fertile ground for injustices, a paradise or an inferno, depending on who is telling its history. More than one Quixote and all the humanity of a Sydney Possuelo, this uncompromising defender of the most injured peoples, is needed here. 330,000 indigenous people live in Brazil -one per cent of this country's population- and they are endangered. This series (Amazonia: Last Call) travels across Brazilian landscapes by way of one of the main links still binding the essence of humanity with the Earth: the Amazon. The filming of the first point of contact with an isolated race, the Zo'E, the encroachment on areas of the Amazonian forest previously uncaptured on film, the evidence relating to the development of the illegal trafficking of species or the recording of the immeasurable value of Brazil's natural spaces; these are just excerpts from the series. The underlying theme is the conflict between the development and conservation of one of the key natural areas underpinning the stability of the planet.

I won't go traveling tonight
I won't go back to the wolves, now
There's something singing in the ice
In the deepest part of the world
And a film across my eyes
As I'm watching all the waves turn white
He took me out on the tide
To make pearls of my eyes
And uncover me, oh, without asking
Tore every stich, every line, every hook, every eye
Between him and the diamonds, diamonds
I would not give, but maybe tonight I will
With you holding my arms and my stuttering heart
As I'm bound and flayed alive
Oh, don't go traveling tonight
Hold that child in your arms
Well, there's no more canaries in the mine
And a cloud, black over the water
And a voice, low in my ear
