The Sydney Harbour Marriott, one of Sydney's longest standing hotels, will complete a $15 million facelift of its lobby and reception with a suite of new restaurant and bar offerings in March.

The hotel, which has stood for nearly 30 years in Circular Quay, will unveil two new restaurants as well as a refreshed Customs House Bar, a staple watering hole for Circular Quay visitors.

The hotel will open a new 120-seat restaurant called Silvester's and a laneway venue called Three Bottle Man.

"Sydney Harbour Marriott has been a longstanding Sydney institution for 28 years. Drawing on both local and international expertise, this transformation will position the hotel as a serious contender in Sydney's food and drink scene," general manager Jennifer Brown said.

The Marriott's transformation is one of the first in a series of changes that will hit Sydney's prime tourist precinct, Circular Quay.

Developer Lendlease has an approved planning proposal to erect a 52-storey commercial tower on the western corner of Circular Quay and revitalise the block around Alfred, Dalley, Pitt and George streets into laneways, public plaza and new restaurants.

The Sydney fan-favourite tavern Jacksons on George will also be remodelled.

Next to Lendlease's site, Mirvac has already completed the new 200 George Street which will connect into Lendlease's proposed laneways and by 2020 Chinese mega developer Dalian Wanda would have completed its $1 billion skyline-altering hotel and apartment project, also in the same block.

AMP has launched a $1 billion redevelopment of its properties in the block bound by Alfred, Bridge, Young and Loftus streets into a new 11,000sq m hub of commercial, retail and residential spaces and restaurants called Sydney Quay Quarter.

The NSW government is also raising $200 million to fund a redevelopment of the ferry wharves at Circular Quay, which had suffered from "years of neglect".

The Quay would also be a final terminus for Sydney's $2 billion light rail project.
