Reclaim The Cape – Anti-Nuclear action week 22.4.-1.5.2016 (Finland)

Friday, January 29th, 2016

So. There’s an anti-nuclear protest site at the west coast of Finland. And it’s
holding an action week between 22th of April – 1th of May, 2016, while celebrating
its first anniversary of existence. What’s all this about? To put it all in a simple
nutshell:

Fennovoima is a Finnish nuclear power company established in 2007 by a consortium of
Finnish power and industrial companies thinking it’s a mighty good idea to put up a
nuke plant at Pyhäjoki, a small municipality at the west coast of Finland – by any
means necessary. Fennovoima’s project nearly faced its much wished-for doom when
German energy giant E.ON, the main investor of the project at that time, decided
nuclear power is bad business and withdrew its money in 2012. (more…)

Announcing Black Seed Issue #4 (USA)

Thursday, December 10th, 2015

From Black Seed:

In This Issue:

* The End of the World?
* Activism and the Green Left
* An Introduction to the Anthropecene
* Interviews with Dominique & Knowing the Land is Resistance
* The Aftermath of the Katrina Disaster
* Anarcho-Primitivism and Green Platonism
* Nihilist Animism
* Reviews & More…

Editorial: Is the End of the World Upon us?

There are plenty of signs that would lead us to believe that this is the case. In
this issue we focus on natural catastrophies, both the incredibly dangerous ways
they’re minimized by government agencies and popular media, as well as our total
lack of collective responsibility, demonstrated by our increasing consumption of
finite resources. Our world has gone mad with profit-for-the-very-few and the
political and social consequences of a world with as great a gap in income levels as
there has ever been are dangerous. How will the next economic crash look compared to the 1930s?

Will it take another war to end the next one? Can we survive such a war?
Finally, is the end of the world visible in how we allow ourselves to be treated by
the State? If Black Lives Matter has taught us anything it is that the human
capacity to objectify and destroy other humans is as high today as it has ever been
and that the rhetoric is even more sophisticated (and not) and even less forgiving.
If the end of the world is a measurable event there is plenty of evidence that the
meter for it is at a near high. (more…)

Paris: COP21 – Tear gas, grenades and hundreds of arrests (France)

Monday, November 30th, 2015

n295

From The Acorn:

Tear gas and grenades were fired by French riot cops against brave activists who defied martial law in France – and more than 200 people were arrested.

Thousands took to the streets of Paris against the hypocrisy of the industrial capitalist system and its phoney COP21 climate summit.

For their pains they were kettled, intimidated, attacked and gassed by the cops. “The state of emergency is a police state, a fascist state!” they shouted in defiance of the brutal force deployed by a state which has been so busily depicting itself as a victim, rather than a perpetrator, of violence.

Activist media reported several hundred arrests, with the police taking arrestees away in buses. (more…)

Communiqués of three comrades on trial following an act of sabotage on a high voltage pylon that took place in 2005 (Italy)

Sunday, November 22nd, 2015

Translated by actforfree from silviacostabillyliberi:

The appeal hearing due on 5th October 2015 was postponed to 19th October because an expert appointed by the prosecution and a DIGOS officer [political police] from Pisa in charge of the investigation were absent.

The comrades’ communiqués:

Silvia and Costa:
A high voltage pylon run by Terna [electricity company] on the La Spezia-Acciaiolo railway track was sabotaged in 2005 with two dynamite charges. The action seriously damaged the pylon but did not cause it to fall down.
In the days that followed an anonymous letter sent to press agencies and the Pisa editorial group of the radical eco paper Terra Selvaggia explained that the action had been carried out against renewed plans to reinstate nuclear power. These plans had never been really dismissed after the referendum following Chernobyl, but they continued to be pursued in numerous research centres, such as the Faculty of Nuclear Engineering of the University of Pisa, considered an institute of excellence on a national level. In the same area, at the S. Rossore natural park, another structure stands out: the CISAM, site of an experimental nuclear reactor and a military research centre. This plant recently caused controversy because of the dumping of radioactive water in the Navicelli canal linking the city of Pisa to the sea. Toxic water, which has been declared safe by the usual local servants of ARPAT [state agency dealing with environmental matters] and ASL [state health agency]. On the contrary this poisonous water reminds us that there’s no way out of nuclear power: what has been produced or left as waste is the legacy of a world where energy production and military control come before anything else, even if all they give is a landfill-like world. Hambach Forest – 3 People in Jail (Germany)

Thursday, October 29th, 2015

Updated 2 Nov 2015

PDF – CALL OUT FROM ABC RHINELAND

deutschenglishspanishcatalandanishfrench

Newest information about the Hambi-prisoners

Yesterday evening we got new information about the conditions and developments concerning the 3 prisoners from the forest occupation, who are at the moment imprisoned in Aachen and Cologne. We want to give an update to everyone interested and call out for solidarity. At the moment, there are no public names for the two persons arrested last Thursday, so they’ll be called A. and B. in this text.

All 3 prisoners suffer from injuries they had inflicted on them during their arrest. How the situation exactly went and if they were hurt by police or security, we don’t know. Mr. Blue, who is imprisoned for several weeks now, can’t hear well out of his left ear, and he can’t feel two fingers on his left hand. Since he is in prison, he is not been allowed to see the prison-doctor. (more…)

Another comrade arrested and detained in Hambach Forest Struggle (Germany)

Thursday, October 15th, 2015

After our comrade Jus got out of prison, and is freely walking amongst us again,
another comrade got kidnapped by the police.

The 7th of October the person blockaded one of the conveyor belts in the Hambach
mine. When this belt stops, some diggers stand still and the trains can not be
filled with coal. This mine is second biggest open cast mine of Europe, This area
is the biggest Co2 emitter of Europe.

It is reported that he got beaten by security as well as police, with a broken
wrist, bruises and a red eye as a result. Allegedly photos where taken of the
person at 5 different actions in which the detainee allegedly was involved. They
are accusing him of assault because he allegedly bit a security guard, also
trespassing, ‘disturbing of public enterprises’ resisting and insulting police
officers, are on the list of charges. (more…)

CALLOUT: July approaches, the eviction threat grows – get yourself to Hanhikivi post-haste! (Finland)

Friday, June 26th, 2015

Fennovoima-Rosatom’s nuclear power project is now at a critical point. Fennovoima is supposed to hand over the keys – symbolical and concretical – to Rosatom on the 1st of July. However, Rosatom wants – as agreed – the area without troublesome extra attachments.

Requirements for a police-assisted eviction are however not quite ready yet.
The people still holding on to their lands and cottages in the area have been sent a message by Fennovoima, in which is demanded that the last missing cottage-keys be surrendered to the company at the latest on Friday 26th of June. If this does not happen, the issue will proceed to the Distraint Authorities [the authority managing forced collection of debts, taxes, etc.] according to Fennovoima. After that we’ll have to see how and with what kind of schedule the Distraint and police authorities sort out the practicalities and the connecting of their respective official powers. (more…)

Turin: Preliminary hearing of the trial against Silvia, Costa and Billy + Solidarity event (Italy)

Wednesday, June 10th, 2015

11th June will be a day of international solidarity with Marius Mason and all long term anarchist prisoners, another occasion for dedicating them our time and thoughts and for carrying on the struggle together with them.

This year’s day of international solidarity is entitled “Transition: the struggle is not over“, and is also in support of Eric McDavid, released in January after 9 years of
imprisonment, and of Marius’ gender change.

On the same day the preliminary hearing of the trial against Silvia, Costa and Billy will be held in Turin. The comrades are once again on trial for the events following which they already served years in-prison in Switzerland: the charge of attempted sabotage on the IBM nanotechnology research centre of Zurich. Antinuclear resistance in Pyhäjoki – Join the struggle! (Finland)

Sunday, May 3rd, 2015

The Fennovoima Energy Company is starting to construct a nuclear power
plant in Pyhäjoki, a nice, quiet and small village in the northwest of
Finland.

During the second half of April, Fennovoima cut 95 hectares of very
special coastal forest at the construction area. They didn’t wait for a
month for the legal permission to clear cut the landscape. Instead,
Fennovoima started destroying the forest on Wednesday, the 15 of April.
The forest was a home for several rare birds and other species. Nests of
endangered white-backed woodpeckers (Dendrocopos leucotos) were
destroyed, a very rare white tale eagle got disturbed as dozens of
machines demolished it´s neighborhood.

Athens: Dynamic protest against destructive gold mining in the ancient forests of Halkidiki (Greece)

Sunday, April 26th, 2015

On 16 April 2015 a dynamic protest took place, despite the provocations of the Greek riot police operating under the left government of SYRIZA, in solidarity to the residents of Halkidiki in northern Greece fighting against the destruction of their homes, the environment and the pollution of drinking water in their area due to gold mining operations.

A few years ago the multinational gold mining company Eldorado Gold settled in Skouries and with the backing of powerful domestic private interests has begun large-scale mining activities. Thus, the irreversible destruction of the ecosystem of Skouries and the contamination of soil and groundwater with heavy metals throughout western Halkidiki has already started.

Anti-nuclear action camp, June 8th -21th (Finland)

Tuesday, April 14th, 2015

June 8th – 21st 2015

Energy company Fennovoima intends to start building a new nuclear power plant at the ecologically valuable Hanhikivi cape in Pyhäjoki, in Northern Ostrobothnia of Finland. Join us to stop the construction of this 100 000 year lasting problem, at its beginning!

Finnish energy policy is still stuck in the centralized production mode, and attempts to provide more nuclear power as a climate friendly solution, hiding the fact that nuclear power is an enemy of more sustainable and egalitarian forms of decentralized renewables. Decentralized and horizontal production of energy is just one part of the more equal society we are aiming for. The ecological crisis, and the social crisis in general, requires us to demolish the current model of economy and build alternatives where production provides for everyone’s needs.

A struggle against one irresponsible project is part of the global struggle for conditions of life itself. In recent years, socially and ecologically destructive projects have been stopped by the political power of the people joining forces to overturn political decisions. It is time to realize that also in Finland the acts of the people can be stronger than the words of politicians in making history. (more…)

Birmingham: First demo against Skanska, AstraZeneca building contractors (UK)

Sunday, March 15th, 2015

On Monday 9 March, there was a demo in Birmingham by the Birmingham Against AstraZeneca crew. Around 25 people over the course of the day joined the protest. This is the first demo against a Skanska office in the UK, Skanska are the builders of the Cambridge AstraZeneca global HQ and animal lab. AstraZeneca uses around 300,000 animals in pointless experiments each year; that’s over 800 animals every single day! 500 leaflets brought by the activists were distributed within the first hour and a half of the protest! Support from the public was overwhelming. Shut down the animal torturers-murderers!

Please do a demo against your local Skanska office, without Skanska no lab can be built. The animals need YOU!

Eco-anarchists Billy, Silvia and Costa are on trial again 23 April 2015 (Italy)

Sunday, February 22nd, 2015

From informa-azione.info
Translated by act for freedom now

THE TRIAL OF BILLY SILVIA AND COSTA IS APPROACHING:
LET’S RELAUNCH THE STRUGGLE AGAINST TOXICITY

Five years have passed since we were arrested in Switzerland when police at a checkpoint on the Albis pass, Canton of Zurich, found explosives, propane gas canisters, petrol cans and several copies of a claim by Switzerland Earth Liberation Front in the car we were in. The target of the proposed attack was the Binning and Rohrer Nanotechnology Centre, a structure that was under construction at the time, property of IBM in collaboration with ETH, the Federal Polytechnic of Zurich.

The trial took place a year and a half later where we were accused of: preparing deliberate arson; concealing and transporting explosive material; unauthorized trade (importation) of explosives. Federal prosecutor Hansjörg Stadler demanded sentences of 3 years and 4 to 8 months, broadly accepted by federal judge Walter Wütrich. The court confirmed all the charges, except that of illicit traffic (importation) of explosives, a charge we were cleared of.

Parallel to this, the Public Prosecutor of Turin had begun a thorough investigation of the explosive cartridges that the Swiss authorities had found on us to find out where the material had come from. When the investigation was completed, prosecutor Enrico Arnaldi Di Balme issued three more charges against us: terrorist activity involving lethal and explosive devices, possession and transport of explosives in the public space and receiving stolen goods (explosives), all charges aggravated with ‘terrorist intent’. (more…)
