After going through the motions a previous 19 times already, it makes sense Meryl Streep might feel the need to innovate.

The actress, who picked up yet another Oscar nomination this morning for Best Actress in Florence Foster Jenkins, responded to the honour by issuing a celebratory GIF as her official press statement.

Record Aussie interest in Academy nominations

A record 14 Oscar nominations with Australian interest have been announced. The same number of nominations as record equalling La La Land.

"Please find the following GIF as a statement on behalf of Meryl Streep," a Paramount publicist wrote in an email to media, with the GIF attached.

The GIF, taken from her cameo in Paul McCartney's 2013 video Queenie Eye, shows Meryl dancing gleefully, a suitable reaction to what's her record-extending 20th Oscar nod.

Streep, 67, already has three Oscars on her bathroom windowsill: a Best Supporting Actress trophy for 1980's Kramer Vs Kramer, and two Best Actress prizes for 1983's Sophie's Choice and 2012's The Iron Lady.

The latest honour comes just weeks after she was given a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes, where her stirring acceptance speech drew the ire of US President Donald Trump.

Best Picture favourite La La Land earned a record-equalling 14 nominations for the Academy Awards ceremony, to be held on February 26.
